I am a red 1988.5 Ferrari 328 owner. Growing up in Italy in the 80's, that was THE Ferrari to have. But then again, Ferrari itself is a national monument for Italians, so any Ferrari is a dream to us. So, when I got to the point of being able to afford my own F-car, I had to decide which one to get. Everyday was something different, but the one I always came back to was my first love, the 328. So I got it. Best decision ever. I own several sports cars now, but the one that still gives me the biggest smile is the 328.

My only pet-peeve is the predictable passive aggressive Magnum PI crack from the random bystander. Actually loved the show, and love the 308, which was a huge part of the show, but I always find it a bit annoying when the reference is made. Not even know why for sure. I guess it feels the same as when an actor is referred to him/her as a character's name rather than their own name. It cheapens its depth of character (in this case, of the great 328, and it's wonderful legacy).

Wondering if others out there are having similar experiences, and if so, what's your favorite comeback? I figure might as well have a bit of fun with it... thanks in advance!

I have owned the 328 for 17 years and I have never heard a Magnum P.I. crack, now I mention it often when I explain my Ferrari passion as growing up on Magnum P.I. and Miami Vice in the 80's.

I love the show. In fact, it's one of my favorites. Generally speaking, it is the passive aggressive mustache, short-shorts, Hawaiian shirt references that annoy me the most, but, honestly, the whole thing is pretty tired.

Do you happen to sport a moustache, or have an affinity for Hawaiian shirts?

are you sure they are passive aggressive? Anytime I hear the reference, I've always interpreted in from the context of positivity. Magnum P.I. and Miami Vice are good shows.

Well Magnum drove a 308, not a 328. But if anybody says anything, just say, "Magnum was the coolest dude on TV."

I get the same thing when I drive my 288. They ask if that the Magnum car.
In my Daytona, I get Miami Vice. That one bugs more!
I just say yes. Nothing more, nothing less.

They still run Magnum PI in Italy on daytime TV --- in Italian dubbing.

    Pretty funny.

If anyone's ever aggressive about it, just smile back and think to yourself 'jealous ****s' cos that's the only reason anyone makes a snide comment - jealousy. Some people are built to be unable to accept other people's success, even though of they were to change that about themselves, it might psychologically help them achieve their own successes (which in many cases is 'drive a ferrari)

I've almost given up trying to correct the errors.

I've heard my 328 called a "Tester Rosser" by one self appointed Ex-spurt. ;)

I've also been asked if it's the new Trans-Am, and if it's a Jaguar.
But then, I guess people have trouble figuring out that it's a Ferrari because mine isn't red. :p

On the one occasion that I was asked if it's a "Magnum car", I replied, "No, just a carafe". :D

The only one that annoyed me was when I drove it to work, and a millwright stomped over to demand to know how I could own a "better car than the CEO".
I informed him that the CEO drove a Buick, and we *all* had better cars. :p
This was the same guy who asked, when I drove the Alfa Spider, if I'd traded in the Ferrari on "another exotic".

I've had several people ask "Wanna swap?", with a smile.
I had to just smile back at the flatbed driver with a luxo SUV on the back.
I didn't have the heart to tell him that *either* of his vehicles was worth more than the 328 (at that time).

Most often, I find that people insist on believing that all Ferraris cost (pinky to mouth) a million dollars. ;)
I think people *like* to believe that "real people" can't own a Ferrari.
It's an excuse for not owning one, themselves -- an excuse that seems to be more palatable than just having chosen other priorities.

Sometimes the best response to a apassive aggressive comment is, "Go F*** yourself."

When I was around age 17 I witnessed A much older friend loose it while fueling up his 77 GTB when a tourist said " Nice kit car!"

Learned right then and there that the words kit car and Ferrari should never be uttered in the same sentence.

Tell them you'd love to talk but you're on your way to bang Charlie's Angels -- all three of 'em.

I'm not sure what the problem is :)

Magnum was a great show, and the car was fantastic.

I own an Aston Martin, and I just love when the Bond comparison is made.

When you own a Porsche or an M3, then you'll get hate :)

Just like movie actors cars get type cast as well. Adam West was always Batman. The 308 will always be Magnum.

Not much you can do but grin and bear it. That's what actors do.

Haters gonna hate. Look at the jokes Porsche people get!

Got that comment from a BMW 328 driver at gas station when I was filling up my old Scuderia.
I thanked him and told him it took me a year to put it together.

In a 3x8 you will never get ask why the styling is like an upside down bathtub.
