What sports cars still have hydraulic steering?

Not sure I understand. Are you asking which exotic cars have electric steering? The list will much much smaller if that's the case.

Some of us would submit that real sports cars do not have power steering of any type. The cars mentioned so far are GT cars, or perhaps exotics, but they're not sports cars by my definition.

 

Robb, I believe McLaren 650S and 570S still use hydraulic setups.

So, what's the big deal with no power steering?

Well, I love how in the turns the steering wheel is fighting back against you. You can feel the grip of the tires and it takes some physical effort to make the turn because of it. You are not removed from the tires. You get feedback as to how the car is gripping in the front.

You don't get that today.

I had a Corvette C7 with electric power steering. I hated it. Not only was there no feedback but it was completely artificial -- like some software geek decided how he thought a car should steer.

The C7 actually work in reverse of what a real car does. At slow speeds its easy to turn, at high speeds it's more difficult. WTF???? That's great for grandpa driving down main street but it makes no sense if you want to use it in anything involving hard driving. The steering feel is all over the place and in inverse order to what your brain is used to

 

Pretty sad when your 1984 Oldsmobile has better steering than a new BMW.

 

AFAIK, my Lotus Exige has no power assist. And I have never driven any street car on the track that better communicated what the front tires were doing. The 4C may be similar.

 

The Lotus Elise/Exige have manual steering with no hydraulic assist. The Evora has hydraulic steering.
