Rare and immaculate 1998 Ducati 900 Supersport Final Edition. #118 of only 300 of the last of the carbureted series of classic Ducati Supersports, considered one of the most iconic and beautiful motorcycles ever made. Approx. 10k miles. This bike has had almost $4,000 in service and upgrades performed in the last 50 miles, including a Keihin 41mm flat-slide carb conversion, new tires, full service including valve adjustment and timing belts, chain, new steering head bearings, and much more at local Italian motorcycle specialist. Ohlins rear shock and Corbin custom seat. All original parts, manuals, tools, and spare keys included. Correctly repainted at the Ferrari of Houston award-winning restoration facility.

These 900SS's are as wonderful to ride as they are to look at, and this is the last and best of these legendary machines. You'll never meet someone who owned one who didn't regret selling it, and I'm sure I'll be one of those guys when this one is gone. Too many cars and bikes and not enough space or time to take care of it all!

These are blue-chip longterm collectibles and the next of the Ducati models that are poised for a dramatic jump in values. It would look great next to a classic Ferrari in your garage!

    Fairly priced at $9,900.

    Thanks!

Common man, that ain't right. Keeping that bike in a storage locker. Man, if I was just a few years younger. IIRC, this is the Duc Peter Egan liked.

These are super machines. I looked for a year for the final edition, like the OP's. I am very glad I pulled the trigger on a 94 in red and is a fantastic companion to the Ferrari and IMHO one of the finest riding bikes for open highway that I have ever ridden. Good luck with sale. Hope it goes to a good home.

This gen 900SS is the Hunter S. Thompson "sausage creature" machine.

Egan did in fact write about this series a few times, but he would be more associated with his lust for a bevel drive SS from the 70's / 80's.

Beautiful machine. op you mention the FE is the best of the series, which quite a few folks would agree with. My guess is though that the majority would say a SuperLight would be the most sought after of the 90's square headlight 900SS.

Curious... how is it that you rank the FE above the SL ?

The FE is the one with the most evolution into it but it is senseless to argue about which is best since; once sorted they are all very special. It's just that each production version requires different attentions to ensure best ROI and ownership experience. IMHO of course!

Agreed. Mostly. Lol. The op said in no uncertain terms that the FE is the best so I'm merely asking him why he feels that way. And specifically why is it better than a SL which is the exact same single seat/high exit exhaust spec however with the more traditional white frame and of course those magnificent 2-piece Marvic magnesium wheels that only came on an SL.

The biggest reason is they don't suffer from the major issues that affected early supersports, namely cracking frames and swingarms, and broken head studs. I've had an SL, and there is virtually no difference in the way they ride, but the Mavics are kind of a pain in the ass to keep torqued and free from corrosion, and they were actually pretty heavy wheels! FE'ss were called Superlight Mark IV's in some markets as I recall. They're all great bikes but you can't sort out a rough one for the cost of just buying a really good one, unless you can do all of the work yourself. Sounds familiar!

op why was the bike repainted ?

What other bikes do you have in the stable that make this blue chip collectible FE expendable ?

It had a pretty good scratch on the left side fairing when I bought the bike, from something in the previous owner's garage falling against the bodywork. It also had some minor scratches and rock chips here and there. I wanted everything to match and it just made sense since we were going to mix paint anyway to do it right and paint the entire bike.

The most interesting bikes are a BMW HP2 Sport and an '81 R100RS.

    Holy hell nice paint booth!

Does this bike still have all the sound insulation aka engine heating system on the fairing inner sides? That stuff is HEAVY! It takes a real sadist to leave it in there.

It's a later R1200RT color, I believe Anthracite. Perfect bike for a distinguished gentleman, not unlike yourself Dale!

Will consider reasonable offers on the Supersport. Garage is totally full of cars and bikes, and I'm afraid if it ends up being living room art it will never be ridden again, which would be a shame!

    Bump for a great bike.

We are discussing Ducatis in my 996 thread, down the page....looks like you need to reload the pictures.

  19. So cool & certainly true in my case. I had 900ss, red with a white frame & black wheels. Shoulda kept it! I used to ride it mostly with a friend that had a RC30 done up in the Smoking Joe Camel paint scheme. The Ducati got the attention hands down every time.

of all my ducatis, my 900 ss and my 900 sl were among my favorites...just great bikes.

kie is correct though, the sl is the most precious of that breed.

As a point of reference, I recently acquired/woke up a 1-owner 1996 900SS/SP model with 1258 miles. After refreshing all the usual bits, the bike was essentially as-new.

The 1st person who looked at it offered very close to what is being asked for this FE. Done deal. Should have held out for more lol.

Not trying to thread-jack... I'm just of the opinion these carby SS models from the 90's (all variants) are headed no where but up.

The pics are from 3 weeks ago when I bought it. Fairings were off for inspection.

Are you suppose to take it off?
    :D :D

I have gone to great lengths to preserve it, on my ST3s!!
I guess it would tend to trap heat, as you mention....
