He needs to continue driving like he did today. By that I don't mean get podiums and stuff, but just keep matching his teammate, be within 3-5 tenths of him. Ideally next year keep Massa on and see if Stroll can beat him regularly.
I just want to say: neither this nor that, just a solid performance from a young driver who has a lot of negative press
+1 Yes, today Lance Stroll conducted a very mature race on a difficult track. Glad he got that result.
This naysayer is no longer. Well done Lance. I was at his Dad's track (Tremblant) when he was still learning carting at 8yrs old. Impressive "mic drop" of a drive.
I think the tests with the 2014 car will help him out a lot. Today's race was an example, and he has a few more tests to go...
No doubt about it, Stroll did well today. The record books will forever show that he has an F1 podium and that's great for him. Well done that lad! Let see how he does moving forward. He showed pace for first time in Baku. Maybe his testing programme is finally paying off. Next step will be to consolidate pace and develop more race craft particularly in the overtaking and defending departments.
Interesting comparison: Max: - First points: 7th in 2nd race. - Best finish in first season: 4th in 10th race. - First podium: 1st in 5th race of 2016 season, his 24th race and second season. - First win: 2016 Spanish GP, his 24th race. Stroll: - First points: 9th in 7th race. - Best finish in first season so far: 3rd in 8th race. - First podium: 3rd in 8th race, and his first season. - First win: ? Amazingly Stroll is winning 2 of the 4 categories, with a better finish in first season and number of races to first podium! Pete
I'm still not believing very much in Stroll....but if he can be more consistent I'll have no problem on changing my mind
Congrats to Stroll! But never forget: http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/60205000/jpg/_60205237_60205236.jpg Image Unavailable, Please Login
Remember when Tiago Monteiro got a podium finish? Remember when he did it again. Oh wait... You have to do more than a one-off with half the field penalized or out before I get impressed. And you have to do it consistently. That goes for Stroll, Max, anyone. I'm simply not a bandwagon jumper
This^. He continues to test when others cant. Thats family funded and team hand holding LOL. Talent? Not so much. Talent in a teen is Max. Stroll lost second at the line with nary a move to defend. Max would have worked harder. Stroll has a podium but there is serious footnote attached. He will learn and grow but Im not blind to the cause of all this and its more to do with money than overt talent. He can drive but he is far from an F1 star yet- if ever. To the moral superiority troll here who thinks Im/we are a troll, bashing a teen - Get over it and get real. Stroll, his family and money entered the very real and judgemental world of F1. He needs to face that and grow into it. Opinion and critics abound and not just here. Surely that is no surprise to Stroll, his family or any poster with a brain here. Dont like opinion log off.
Because of the multitude of variables racing has it, like no other competitive activity I have ever seen, garners an endless list of explanations as to why any given result is not as impressive as it could be, or should have/could have been different, etc. Haters will always hate, and there will always be an exponential more talkers than doers and that's just life. Years back someone summed it up best for me: "There is no room for explanation on a score card" Congratulations to Lance for again adding to his F1 accomplishments. As a points scorer, and now podium finisher, he is creeping towards a pretty rare group of F1 drivers (let alone racing drivers as a whole) in history. Time will tell what his record will be but he is off to a pretty decent start.
This was told to me when I took 2nd in the NM State Karting Championship. Some felt it wasn't justified but I worked my rear off and pulled it off. There will always be haters when you are a newbie and get a good finish. I tell you that trophy is one of pride and joy. Stroll did great and had a good finish with sub-par equipment. Yes there were things that happened but that's racing folks. You don't win till you cross that finish line!
+1 And great job keeping it on the track, but it's not as if he got ahead of the guys behind him by making great overtakes...in fact it was a whole streak of luck from car failures, penalties and freak failures that did the brunt of the work. I maintain (before I get called a hater again ) that this is how he should've driven from day 1: Close to Massa.
