Thanks. She is in the final stages. Front windshield in. A/C and radio hooked-up. Started and sounded great. A quick tune of the engine and off to color sand. Should be on the road this month.

    It was quite a journey.

AM11649*1208* has been confirmed as a very early production Indy 4.9. According to Maserati Classiche's Historic Archives it was the 45th 4.9 produced out of 300. Additionally, *1208* is only 1 of 39 sent to the US with the 5-speed ZF manual transmission. When you add in factory air conditioning, power steering, Borrani Dial forged wheels, power windows and a Becker AM/FM radio (which we got to work properly) - this particular Indy is quite unique and rare. The Classiche documentation tells a story of an April 1971 order of the Indy by Grossman Motor Cars in New York with a production date of September 1971.

The Indy remains matching numbers and Maserati Classiche certified - with all original parts (engine, chassis, gearbox, wheels, steering wheel, console components, radio), a fresh paint and interior, fresh 205VR14 Michelin XWX on all the wheels including the spare, complete mechanical rebuild, chrome work, correct exhaust, and much more.

    She looks fantastic!

The insulation wrapping that you have used for the exhaust pipe can you share any details on it? does it work well? I am wondering what to do in regards to getting the heat from the exhaust\engine\gearbox away from radiating up and into the transmission tunnel.

The airfilter box is special on your car with the wrinkle finish. Do you know if there is a story behind it? As you say the car is unique and rare, so there might be a reason for why it is special. Why I am asking is because the factory normally delivered these boxes in satin black paint, and I thought they didn't start to wrinkle paint them until Alejandro started production of the QP3 in 1979. I might be wrong though, since I have seen the occational Bora and Ghibli with the wrinkle painted airfilter housing, but I thought that might been because they have been replaced with a QP3 airfilterbox at a later point in time.

    Kind regards

    Kim

Thanks. The effort was great and I have been a Ferrari only owner for years and this was my first venture into the Maserati brand. Really great car and engine.
