If Vettel doesn't win WDC, where exactly is he off to that offers him a better chance in 2018?

I'm over Kimi ... it's sad that he once was known primarily for his blistering speed. That speed is gone (barring a few races where somehow he managed to beat his teammate). His overtaking skills suck (sad when one can remember that pass on Fisico at Suzuka so many years back), and he has a very small set up window where he is comfortable. Otherwise he flails about several tenths slower than his teammate (particularly the Alonso years when the car was not that good)

All one remembers him now is his unique personae, angry retorts and bwoah. It will be good if he goes and causes a re-shuffle in the drivers and the injection of new blood.

It all depends on how big the cheque offered by Ferrari to RBR is,and of course if either of them decides they want out.

Just like Massa...he needs to be replaced. Merc have two fast drivers. Ferrari have only one.

Problem with Verstappen is that he'll be faster than Vettel.

Ricci will be the only driver to push Vettel for sure, but also snoop plenty points away from him which is problematic.

    Perez will be same speed.

Sainz is too inconsistent for my liking and starts to make many dumb mistakes.

    Ocon under expensive Mercedes contract.

    Leclerc is great.

If Vettel doesn't sign soon I can see a mega offer for Verstappen and Vettel left to deal with it.

He hasn't got anywhere to go.

Alonso won't come back to Ferrari, simple as that.

He better signs soon otherwise he doesn't have a say in who his teammate may be, and if it's any of the Red Bull boys he'll be in trouble. Especially with the Dutch one.

Verstappen matched Ricciardo last season and now has the measure of him quite easily in qualifying...He's only getting faster and faster.

Ferrari ready to extend Vettel deal

Ferrari is ready to sign a new contract with Sebastian Vettel.

The 2017 championship leader's first three-year deal contract with the Maranello team runs out this year.

President Sergio Marchionne is quoted by Italian media: "I have told him very clearly that we are ready if he wants to stay with us.

    "It's up to him."

Vettel, 30, said recently that amid his championship battle with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, he is not rushing to enter contract talks.

Yep, hence me saying it's up to Vettel and he should sign quick. If he doesn't and Verstappen comes, Vettel a) doesn't have anywhere to go and b) he won't be top dog anymore.

I think it would be incredibly dumb for Vettel not to sign with Ferrari. Number one, he should do it now and put this distraction away considering he is in the WDC fight. Number two, where else will he go? Just jump ship to Merc when the Ferrari is nearly as fast? Would all that talk of becoming like his idol MSC and bringing Ferrari back to title glory be BS? That would make him look like a clown

He's crazy if he doesn't come back

Seb will stay, Bottas proved he has what it takes to earn a merc drive, so, unless Elton retires, there is no better place to go for SEb...and even if mercedes had a place, who knows if Ferrari won't be better next year.

    +1

Though I do think he will sign, presumably over summer. He's his own manager and even the contract he does himself...Lot of extra work ;).

He's been talking of Michael since he was a little boy (and Ferrari) so don't think it's BS. Sure enough with his wages from Toro Rosso one of the first things he bought was a 430 Scuderia. 2 years ago Pavarotti's F40 too...

Kimi will not be leaving Ferrari for at least another year. He is the perfect teammate for Vettel and is a major Ferrari team player. Ferrari do not want what is happening to Mercedes right now.

In Austria, they used Kimi to stay out latter and slow down others like Bottas so Vettel could gain and advantage. At this stage Kimi has no problem helping Ferrari and Vettel win the championship. There is NO WAY Verstappen, Riccardo or even Perez would do this( I can't say I blame them, they are all at different stages of their career and hungry for a Championship, especially with Ferrari)
