When people decided you don't get to impose your pompous views of what constitutes proper use of a Ferrari and proper terminology for yachts.

Okay I've checked the definition of the word Yacht, which I honestly thought meant sail boats, and it does in fact include all sorts of boats ... confused. And yes some of these boats are great looking but IMO nothing surpases the looks of a sail boat.

Anyway I've learnt something today :).

...when one refers to their own vessel as a yacht... they are expressing some form of elitism, where as the more modest generally refer to their vessel as a boat

...when speaking of another's vessel that is impressive or compliamentary it is typical to refer to it as a yacht

Glad we could solve this issue. :) Just an honest mistake.
Everyone has their own opinions about what looks good and you're entitled to that and I respect your opinion. Sailboats look very elegant but I've always been a fan of the motor boats.

The J-class are my favourites. A Dutch guy decided that he wanted to create a new class of yacht, akin to a J in spirit but slightly smaller and with modern materials and a bulb keel. The idea grew into a new class, the F-class, although that wasn't really the intention of the owner. Named Firefly, she was launched in June last year and has raced against the other J's during the 2011 season. A sister boat is currently under construction. Nice video:

I think it is a fabulous boat, well thought-out and bringing something new whilst respecting the old. The J-class and Maxi racing is getting so exciting now, the race at Sardinia last year was fabulous, and the J's will be racing at several locations in the English channel in 2012.

^Those are both probably the ugliest.

The Wally Esense has always been my favorite sailboat so that gets my vote.

to pick up on the 'Endeavour',as this is actually Ferrari chat site....The Yacht was ordered by Sir Tommy Sopwith,in an attempt to win the America Cup. He had further boats built as time went on,but failed (as everyone else) to bring home the bacon to UK. Having given up on that quest, turned to motor racing, both as a driver, and entrant. The endeavour name continued (Equipe Endeavour) racing Jag 3.8s, DB Astons, mainly at Silverstone and Goodwood, and employing top class drivers.

Naval architecture may be the ultimate "form follows function" arena. If you screw up, the sea will let you know pretty quickly.

Pretty sure this is "Pelorus" (referenced earlier in this thread). I took this pic in Nassau on a cruise this past April. Commissioned by Roman Abramovich, sold to David Geffen, now owned by a Saudi government minister of some sort.

Obscenely expensive (if Ferrari's are 1x and private jets are 10x in terms of cost, I have to think that megayachts like this are 100x in terms of hourly spend and yearly upkeep) but there is something primal about men and boats. I don't have a yacht so I have to buy tickets on other people's, but I imagine that nothing says "I'm a player" like showing up someplace in your own big honkin' yacht :)

Alfa Nero is a good one. I like Oceanco yachts overall, but that one in particular always caught my eye.

The one in your photo is different and a smaller yacht.
