I am just looking for other thoughts as I am considering selling my rhd carb drysump gtb. I do not want or need to sell it but even though I do really like having it,driving it and looking at the fantastic shape, having owned it for 7 years I am doing only about 500 miles or less per year. There are lots of reasons with my circumstances why I do not drive it much and I cant see that changing in the near future.

There you go. If you would sell something you don't want or need to sell anyway, I'd wait for a year/couple of years since I think prices are bottomming out these days after the last increase. No crystal bowl, no expert, but I'm pretty sure selling now will turn out to be a mistake.

Been having the same thought occasionally for the last few weeks.. I am an operator at an NGL Gas Plant 700 miles away from home. Make the commute every two weeks either by plane, train or Chevy pickup. Ferrari doesn't get driven much as I opt for being on the lake when time allows. Can't really for all practical purposes drive a 308 back and forth to location. BUT.. The thought of an 87 Air cooled Carrera is sounding way cool! Throw a duffel bag in the back seat worn out Levi's, a T-shirt, grab the sunglasses and make in event out of the 11 hour commute. Not a big deal having a 911 in the parking lot for two weeks, but the 308? Would never get any work done for too many questions! Brought this up with my wife just last night. She said the Ferrari stays!
Point being .. sometimes you really don't have any say in the matter. Haha. :)

If only the darn belts did not have a sell-by date on them ...... this is the biggest curse put on us by Maranello ..

If it did not need the maintenance and service when not being used I would not think of selling. I believe that there is a minimum mileage these cars need to be used in order to stay in good condition so I may be doing a bit of harm to the car as a result.

You mention that you do not drive it much, 500 miles a year. The point is, you do drive it therefore keep it, you have the rarest of the 308 class and the most valuable 308.

I suppose the answer depends on your particular circumstances of a) why you don't drive it more and b) is there a reason you're considering selling, merely beyond "I don't drive it much."

If you enjoy those 500 miles per year, and the maintenance (costs, etc) isn't an issue - I'd keep it. But if you think you'd enjoy something more with the cash you'd get - a few vacations, kids' college costs, home improvements, etc - then it's like any other asset... compare the pros/cons and go from there.

I feel much less impassioned about this issue.

Sure, our Honda Pilot has only required two timing belt changes in the 230,000 miles we've owned it but, to me, twice a decade isn't a fatal flaw in 308 engine design.

For that matter, $4k or $5k buys Nick's Forza Ferrari kit which converts the 308 to modern Japanese style belts.

Why can't the Japanese make a belt that fits on the 308 then? Or anyone for that matter?

I have been considering selling MY 328 for two years now and my wife constantly says the same - "No way are you selling that car!" :)

It's good to occasionally be aware of who wears the pants in the family!

As I understand it, it is a matter of belt design. 308 belts are narrow with a shallow square-edged tooth profile. The other "Japanese" (really just "more modern") belts are wider with a deep rounded tooth profile. There are several threads on the topic, if you are interested.
