A bit of a reality check in England for the baby Stroll. In fact, the Williams team, in general, looked a bit lame.
I will give Lance credit for not crashing anymore and actually driving decent. That said at this moment in time it is very hard to give an opinion on him as he has not really done much. Everyone goes crazy about his podium in Baku but he didn't really do anything to earn it besides staying out of trouble and not crashing. Same thing in Canada with his first points. He really hasn't shown an speed(especially compared to Massa) and I don't think he is anywhere near the talent to be in F1. Look at Ocon.....that guy can take it to Perez all day long. I'm still going to hold out on my opinion of Lance till I see something. For the moment he has stopped crashing so next I'm hoping to see better speed qualifying and more attacking........till then the jury is still out. I predict he may end up the Marcus Ericsson and just be a pay driver that stays in F1 for years because he can keep coming up with the money
I'm "missing" the point once again, eh? If Massa was dumped for Lance....how are they teammates this season? I admit, I'm mentally challenged at this point.
TheMayor is right. Baby stroller replaced Massa. Nico retired and MB needed a #2 and MB engine customer Williams was willing to fork him over for a good engine deal and $. Problem was that sponsor Martini needed an adult for marketing and so they hired the old man back
Gotcha. Thanks. I done did forgotted all that crapola. Nonetheless, he sho' ain't dumped. And, what kind of contract did he have? Was it up and he was retiring anyway? If he was pushed out, and still had another, or more years, to go on the contract, what was his "fee" (the buyout) for the "dumping"? Anywho, I was willing to give the kid some time, and have, but I'm starting to believe the potential to be anything remotely "special" just ain't there. I wouldn't mind being mistaken, however, just to spite the resenters that don't believe he should be there because of his dad's moola. No matter who you are or how good, it's gotta come from somewhere. Why not one's father? What's the difference?
yap, its a bit ridiculous that the "dumped one" is sweeping the floor with the "dumpster"...kinda make you wonder what williams as become....
Something to smile at:- JULY 19, 2017 Williams bans Villeneuve from motor home According to the rumour grapevine, Williams has banned its 1997 champion Jacques Villeneuve from the team's motor home at grands prix. French Canadian Villeneuve is now a television pundit for Italy's Sky, but the Williams ban apparently followed the 46-year-old recently telling a newspaper that Lance Stroll is the "worst rookie" in F1 history. "With regard to Jacques, he's obviously been pretty vocal in the media," said deputy team boss Claire Williams. "I don't want to go into a huge amount of detail about it. The way that Lance describes it, he just wants to get on and let his track performance do the talking. "I think that's what we should do, because that's when the critics will stop -- when Lance proves he deserves to be in formula one, which we all at Williams believe anyway," she insisted. Indeed, Claire Williams told Italy's Corriere dello Sport that 18-year-old Stroll's recent podium in Baku showed he is in fact a "superstar of the future". "He has shown to have a strong character and personality, even under pressure," she said. "He has been interrogated more than most rookies are but always remained focused and has constantly improved. "After the first six races he was criticised a lot, but I always responded by recalling the debuts of Vettel, Ricciardo and Raikkonen," Williams explained. "Honestly I didn't expect him to get on the podium this year, but now that it's happened, we can say that we have a superstar of the future with us."
Having personally witnessed a similar situation before, that was a order from Lawrence Stroll, I'm 100% sure!
Is Claire realy trying to compare Kimi, Seb or Riccis debut in f.1 with the stroller? MUST BE THAT TIME OF THE MONTH!!
Haha exactly! Kimi who scored points (points only given to first 6 cars back then remember) on his debut, in Imola (4th race of the season I believe) he would've had a podium but his steering wheel detached (!!!) resulting in a strange accident...the same Kimi who only had 23 car races to his name at the time of his debut. Kimi of course was criticized for his inexperience but pretty much immediately shut the critics up. Vettel, who scored points on his debut. The same Vettel that in torrential conditions was in 3rd place and gaining on not only webber but also Lewis Hamilton in a Mclaren, Vettel of course in a lowly Toro Rosso, only to be taken out precisely because of Lewis...his would be 3rd place backed up by several 4th places in bad weather, all in his first season, which he only joined halfway through anyways. Danni ric...was he even criticized? He got in going through the ranks, replaced the useless Karthikeyan and then moved up to STR...I honestly can't remember anyone criticizing him at any point, ever. Is Claire that deluded? She could've just compared him to Grosjean or something, he was criticized often (though for crashing reasons), once he fixed that he got more accepted.
Further proof the rich can order fake news, limit access and decide who and what can offer opinion on their children LOL. This will empower JV. Last time I checked he is an actual F1 title holder among other things. Im not liking Williams much right now to begin with. Stroll is hardly a 'talent' in the true sense. Some talent but forgetful to begin with. Again with no funding he never gets past the stands to get near an F1 car. Just rename the team Stroll F1 and be done with it. This being soapiest of opera in F1 right now LOL. Entertaining this all is. I think JV is not pleased to see the continuous testing being done by Stroll. Again if he needs more he's not ready for F1 in a true sense. If Stroll gets better thats fine but I dont sense myself ever really caring about him as a fan. Ever.
+1 I'm definitely not the biggest fan of Villeneuve (partly is because of his constant need to undermine Verstappen, which basically makes him look like an idiot instead of swallowing his pride...It's more than OK to criticize Verstappen for his age when he came in, like many (ex) drivers did, but all of them quickly admitted their mistake after they saw he indeed has the skill to be in F1 on merit), but this is actually good for him. That said, I do like his style of telling it how it is (even though he's not always right, no matter what he thinks). He's not politically correct, which is good.
+1 JV is hardly perfect and nor is the Stroll family and its influence. The act of limiting him is petty and silly. Fans and the public should hear the opinions good or bad. Stroll was glaring about his feelings with the press on camera with SKY at Montreal. He was with the reporting team being interviewed and made it clear he thought the press on his son was a bit much. Sorry pops but you gave this child access. Deal with it. Adult game and press. He deserves no better or worse treatment than others suffer, and in my opinion his results and reporting are in order for his results.
The bizarre thing is, Claire Williams seems to be under the impression that Stroll beat everyone else with pace and skill to get third place in Baku, when the reality is, just about everybody else either had mechanical failures, collisions or other issues that handed him third place. She needs to come back to reality and realise that had every single driver had a normal race, then Lance Stroll would have ended up a very unimpressive 11th place and out of the points at best in Baku, if not worse! Lance Stroll could be a Superstar of the future, but only if Daddy can secure him a drive in Indycars!
The rumour was that JV was banned from the Williams motor home, taken literally is that such a big deal? He can still comment as much as he likes. Personally i could't care less what he says, never rated him either.
+1 buddy +1 Being realistic, his Baku performance was really ''nothing special''. The celebrations that said ''he beat his teammate in qualifying'' where ridiculous, I mean it's to be expected he's near his teammate in any case! 2nd it's Massa, they act like he beat Michael Schumacher or Alonso ffs. On top of all that the same Massa was all over him and ahead in the race but car failure ultimate cost him victory...And Stroll would've been 4th! Was it a normal race he'd have finished 8th to 10th.
