Hello Gents, as a new owner of a 99 550 I'm looking for a set of quality wheel spacers. Let me know if someone has a set that are no longer in use. A photo of the newly acquired ride.
p.s. just installed a pair of Capristo mufflers....exactly what a proper V12 should sound like

My 550 also has Capristo mufflers! Truly sounds amazing! Love that V12 howl.

Congrats Rey, beautiful ride! I'm curious, why are you considering spacers? Front, rear, both?

    Cheers!

Thank you for the compliment, I'm just considering the rears. Front looks fine to me. I'm aware of the new ones I can get but figured I should first ask if anyone had a pair of pre own ones (25mm) before buying a new pair. Any pitfalls to rear wheel spacers for a car that's a weekender?

Hill engineering (via ricambi for US) sells them.
I have them on the rear of my 456GT with longer bolts, no issues at all for several years now.

H&Rs are just as good (hub-centric, quality material and process, etc.) and cost less. I've got them on my 575, no problems at all at regular or higher speeds. H&R has the longer bolts too.

Frank- H&R are nowhere near as good as the Type 2 Hill Engineering 25 mm spacers, which is what he needs for the rear of his 550. The HE spacers have hardened inserts for the OEM wheel bolts, while the H&Rs are just threaded into aluminum. I bought a used set of the H&R spacers and they were so badly cross-threaded we just threw them out and bought a real set from Hill Engineering/Ricambi. Steel bolts into aluminum threads that will be removed every time tires are changed are not a good idea.

Taz - I was referring to the "TRAK+/DR Style" spacers which just require longer bolts. They are not threaded, the bolts still go into the stock hub. They're hub-centric so there's no issue with being off center and vibration, etc. I know, I've had the car up to some pretty high speeds with them and have not had any problems. The spacers which bolt to the stock hubs and then require another set of bolts to hold the wheel to them are heavier that the type I'm referring to and also have more tolerance stackup. Versus a good pass-thru design they just add weight and complexity while reducing the effective clamping force because the 2 sets of bolts are offset. Why have 2 sets of bolts when 1 will do? They might be better suited to thicker spacers (like 25mm). I only went 15mm since I've lowered the car a bit so the single bolt type was the better choice for me. The H&R part numbers I used are 3035671 for the 15mm spacers and 1457011 for the long bolts. H&R is a high quality German brand, IMHO.

Frank- Those longer bolts on inch thick (25 mm) spacers are not a good deal because bending/shear forces are much greater. Plus I have OEM titanium bolts, so very limited options for longer bolts without spending a fortune. No difference in tolerance between a 25 mm spacer held on by longer bolts and one held on by a separate set of bolts, so I do not buy that at all. Both are just flat pieces of aluminum with holes bored in them. IN HE's case, with hardened inserts for the bolts. My titanium bolts make up for any gain in weight.

For spacers less than 25 mm thick, longer bolts are the only option. Over 25 mm and the bolt on spacers are a better option in my opinion. Will take HE quality over H&R any day.

2" wider rear track will make the car understeer even more.

Ive had my 456 on the track with 13" wide wheels and the back and 10mm spacers. No rubbing. But make sure your longer bolts engage the threads deeply enough. If they engage by only 3or4 turns a disaster will happen. By the way the track handling is very neutral with the bigger wheels and tires.(SO2s)
