I am not sure about that. If it would be only his clothes and the "lifestyle" I would agree with you but listening to his interviews and how he is talking about himself it is hard to belief...People with such an extreme self-belief are rarely shy...

But if you are right I think the "original" Lewis would be more sympathic to me.

    True.

Niki got that nickname for his big frontal teeth, so no shame really. Later they called him the computer for his calculated drives to get the max points

Stirling is the main man. As a schoolboy, and carnut,I was lucky enough to be involved in the progress of my hero. SM stayed at a pub owned my schoolfriend, close to Goodwood,so I knew everything that was going on. (landlord,John Brierley) Peter, bought me a slice of the cake when Stirling married Katie. I was at Goodwood when Stirling has his big 'off' and followed his slow recovery,. Before that, from the pub,we knew private details of testing the Vanwall ,and one day, with info from Peter,we decided to bunk off school, hitch a lift to Lavant, and walk through to Lavant corner. We saw Stirling doing some 50 - 60 test laps, and were back at Midhurst to sign off at the end of the day. What could be better than that !!
