I used to hate the summer break but I've come around to appreciating it.
To me it just extends the season!

Is it just me or have there been far more races every 2 weeks than before? Seems like there have always been quite a few races back to back before summer vacation.

It has to be one of the most thrilling venues in F1 history.

That said, I think that the circuit favors Mercedes as does Monza, which follows right after.

    Obviously, I hope I'm wrong.

Can't wait to see these new cars blast through Eau Rouge. It's the one thing I was really looking forward to once the new cars came out. That should be pretty amazing.

It really depends what Ferrari brings to Spa regarding upgrades. Low downforce track, lots of straights and long high speed corners, that's all merc territory. Mind you, last year Kimi and Verstappen qualified within .15 of pole sitter Rosberg...

The chance of Kimi winning another race in his career is low due to the runway left, his being slightly slower than Vettel and the arrangement at Ferrari. Maybe if it's early next season, but he certainly won't be in the frame to win anything year unless Vettel has some major issue in a race. Sucks but that's reality.

French GP organisers explain decision to add chicane to F1 layout - F1 - Autosport

French Grand Prix organisers chose to place a chicane on Paul Ricard's Mistral Straight to stop Formula 1 engines running at full speed for 1.12 miles and boost overtaking opportunities.

F1 will return to France after a 10-year hiatus in 2018, with the June 24 race marking the first leg of the championship's first triple header that also comprises the Austrian and British Grands Prix.

Organisers have chosen the full 3.6-mile circuit configuration for the race but with a chicane to break-up the long Mistral Straight.

"The FIA did some research and the speed before the chicane will be 343km/h [213mph], so the chicane is useful," French GP managing director Gilles Dufeigneux told Autosport.

"The chicane has been added to prevent the engines from running at full speed on a straight uphill line of 1.8km.

"We also wanted to facilitate the creation of an additional overtaking area.

"It will provide three straight lines where the cars can go at full speed before two massive decelerations - Turn 1 and Turn 8 and a flat out turn - Signes.

Apparently this is the exact configuration currently used for track days.

Some F1 Financial data - Chase Carey says F1 has 'eliminated $1bn tier of debt' - F1 - Autosport

Formula 1 CEO Chase Carey has claimed $1billion of debt has been "eliminated", as owner Liberty Media revealed its financial results for the second quarter of 2017.

In April to June this year F1 recorded a 3% increase in revenues year-on-year, earning $616million.

However, operating income fell from $90m to $45m as expenses and others costs rose, with events like F1 Live in London being held in Liberty's first season in charge of grand prix racing.

An initial offering of 12.9million shares of common stock created net proceeds of $388m, which partially repaid a second lien term loan.

A subsequent refinancing of debt has reportedly enabled that loan to be repaid in full.

The repayments helped decrease the total debt attributed to F1 by $442m, but Carey said the moves "successfully eliminated an expensive $1bn tier" of debt.

If you are suffering withdrawl, catch the Austrian GP MotoGP race from today. The fight for the lead for the entire race will defintely fill the void of F1 until Belgium and will probably convert you to a MotoGP fan if you have not watched it before, simply amazing today!

I think the F1 live event in London was a huge success (would have been better if Hamilton actually bothered to go).

They need to promote F1 in places outside the tracks. Many never go to a race track in their lives. You got to get KIDS excited about F1. It works that way in every sport.
