I installed the Speciale wheels and matching Michelin Cup 2 tires on my normal 458 Italia yesterday. Having driven just a few street miles, the difference is immediate. Visually the Speciale wheels are much wider, mounting quite flush with the edge of the fenders where as the regular Italia sized wheels are a bit tucked in. Road feel from the steering and turn in response is improved as a result (I suspect) of stiffer side walls and wider widths. Braking response has however deteriorated as the tires tend not to be at optimal operating temperature on the street. Track day coming soon and will have a better review. At this point, I've got a good sense that the performance difference between the Speciale and the Italia is at least 50% attributed to this wheels and tires package.

    Any pics?

Where did you get them and pricing if you don't mind, I was considering getting them.

It always is. If you take your 430 or Italia and put on the more focused tires and then widen the track with spacers or wider wheels and put in a more aggressive alignment and maybe more aggressive springs and you will be 65-75% of the way there. :)

I should also say that the ride is noticeably stiffer. It was the first time I was tempted to use the bumpy road setting in sport mode.

Well I think the difference just gets smaller with each iteration. The 360CS is quite different from the normal 360 and the 430 Scuderia is less difference, and finally 458 is basically a body kit with R-rated tires and some software changes.

Let us know how the stability control reacts on track. The Speciale rear tires are shorter than the stockers (30 series vs 35 series), and therefore the front to rear wheel speeds are different. This is why I decided on Trofeo R's in stock sizes on the stock wheels of my 458.

They had some trouble with this after installing the wheels. They reset the ECU and we'll see if it comes back on track. So far so good.

Actually Speciale front tire side wall is slightly taller (3,5 mm to be specific 235/35/20 vs 245/35/20) and I have this 245 size tires on my italia.

However, rear speciale tire side wall is 11,5 mm shorter; thus I kept my stock tire size untill Pirelli decides to produce 305/35/20 size Trofeo R tires (they have this size for P zero)

So the stiffer ride probably comes by the rear tires.

Any updates? Does anyone run Speciale size tires on standard 458 forged 20" wheels? I want to go to track focused tires but would prefer Michelin Sport Cup 2s over Trofeo Rs, but the SC2s don't come in 458 sizes, only Speciale sizes.

Thanks, good to know, but are you sure your rears are 305/35-20 and not 305/30-20? I can't find 305/35-20 in Michelin Sport Cup2. OEM Speciale sizes are 245/35-20, and 305/30-20.

Is anyone running these sizes on the stock 458 20" forged wheels w/o problems? My OEM size MPSS have had a few track days and I'm thinking of going to SC2 this time, but won't if that's going to cause tire telemetry issues (or fender clearance or other physical issues).

    Mel,

Do you have TPMS on your 458?

    Kind regards,
