So what's the deal with the mini Testarossa-like bump on the engine cover?

One of the first prototypes had a downdraft-carburetted engine (!) fitted and the bump accommodated the air-box. A handful of prototypes had this same feature on the engine cover, as seen on the yellow car.

Don't want to be a pain in the a$$, but looks like the factory courtyard to me. Thanks for contributing Joe!

Are you guys not counting prototypes, or just ignoring my initial post altogether?

Any idea where this particular 288 GTO resides now?

Pictures by Mr Massini I think...

No, Joe: 47649 wad delivered in yellow Giallo Fly.

    The Fiamma Breschi color.

Delivered on March 1990 here in Modena.

The only official 288 Car in not red color.

    Ciao

Joe, did you learn it directly from Materazzi? It's very strange as there is no room under the rear windshield so I 'm wondering how they could fit a carb for cylinders 1 and 5, the two on the front of the engine that stay under the rear shelf.

I will ask to ing. Materazzi as soon as possible as I'm very curious

    Ciao

Wasn't it delivered in 1990 after it was repainted yellow? In other words, wasn't it originally built in red in 1984 like all GTOs ?

My notes culled from multiple sources indicate this application , and as you know anything is possible on a prototype. Let us know what Materazzi says and we can amend the received wisdom accordingly.

Yes, but then the factory delivered it in yellow after a full stripping: The car was registered in march 1990 for the first time, and it was yellow.

If Ferrari delivers me a car that is yellow, who cares if it had a different color before. :)

    Ciao

Put it up for sale and you'll find out pretty quickly.
