That is exactly what happened to me in Massachusetts. They gave me a plate with four digits and the letters VD. I told the woman if I ordered a vanity plate with the letters VD the registry would reject the application. She said take it or leave it. I had to take it until I could order a vanity plate. First time in my life I ever had a vanity plate.

My BIL once suggested "ANDIAMO" for my Alfa.
But the only State that would allow that many letters had it already issued ...
... to a Mercedes. (Go figure)

In some places, I might want "TI 3VOM" on the front tag.

Here in the uk we don't have these luxuries with vanity plates we are much more restricted And very expensive here !
