I just came here to post this. Haven't watched it yet but I hope he actually reviews it properly because it's such an underrated car...
It's a pretty good review IMO, don't really care about his points system. It's just refreshing to see a more 'mainstream' journalist with good reach speaking positively about the car.
"It has a heavy clutch" "It drives like a go-cart" It's his insightful commentary on how cars drive keep me coming back. Wow. Chris Harris look out!
I agree, that was a pretty decent review. A bit more grown-up than his previous antics. Less hyperbole. His year-long possession of the 360 and the ridiculous crap he did with it, left me with a bad impression of him. But he's more likable now. He seemed genuinely tickled by the car's performance, which I found endearing. No mention of sticky interior bits. Maybe this example had them already done. I'm also surprised by no mention of the beautiful leather-bound tool kit.
He should have had some insider's knowledge for this piece. His comments were not very enlightened and his scores don't really help. He really needed to test out a modified/enhanced model to experience what we do.
"Later cars lost the strakes on the brake lights"... umm he needs to do a bit more research... that's on the speciale. But I did like his enthusiasm for the car. Also... I thought the 355 belt service did NOT require an engine out? Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
I swear I thought I read that somewhere... maybe it was the 360 I'm thinking of.... Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
Tough crowd... Sure there are some details that aren't accurate, but is there a video out there that speaks better of the 348?
Alright I watched it. Considering that he's botched a lot of car reviews, he actually gave the 348 a pretty fair shake in comparison. Video already has over 250k views so it's good to see the car finally get some mainstream praise. That said, one thing I never get about his reviews is the parts where he talks about handling. I've seen almost all his reviews and he never even comes close to pushing the cars enough to make an informed assessment of handling. Handling to me isn't "how does it feel going 40 in a 25 mph bend". It's "how progressive does it behave near the limit, and does it communicate in a repeatable, predictable manner or not". These little street drives he does tell you nothing about that. If he has no access to a track then he really shouldn't be making broad strokes comments about handling.
R&D (Kris), he's driving/reviewing the car like I imagine 95% of Ferrari owners drive their cars 95% of the time. Flooring it on the straightaways, especially tunnels. Maybe going a little extra fast on the sweepers. Along those lines, he mentions how valued a manual transmission is amongst Ferraris, and how that may be driving up the appreciation on these cars. But how many people out there really know how to heal/toe downshift? The pedals are perfectly arranged for that…
Doug is no expert car reviewer. He is just a guy (passionate I agree) who just likes cars and thinks why not give this Youtube thing a go- I have nothing to lose (except my self esteem). I have never seen any of his reviews that informs me other then with basic facts and have never seen him drive a car at 80% capacity never mind on the limit. Good luck to him, but his opinion on cars is no more valid or informed then anyone else on this forum, in fact with some of his facts, probably less.
The only broad critique that I have is that he just isn't all that descriptive and doesn't convey the experience to the viewer. Seems like just a nice guy that likes cars, but the passion and story to engage the viewer doesn't come through.
It was one of the first vids in a long time that was +ve about the 348 and alot of people watch his videos. So if it helps lessen the "348 was a mistake" urban myth then I'm thankful for the video.
I have stayed quiet on this video posting by Doug, but I am the reason he did it. I emailed him a few weeks ago as I saw his video about the 355 on his YouTube channel and noticed he did not have one on the 348. I offered him my car for a video on the 348 to give it some respect as it was bad mouthed and it did not deserve it, plus without the 348 you would not have the 355. Doug emailed me back and said he agreed and actually really likes the 348 as well as the 355 and asked where I lived to plan a video. Doug is on the east coast and I am out west and he had no immediate plans to come west so he suggested we plan for a later date when he next comes out west. well fast forward to his new 348 video and he decided he did not want to wait and found a local 348 to use. Overall I thought he was fair and he spoke mostly positive, I mean he said "it's fun!" I emailed him back and thanked him for putting something positive out on the 348 to put some respect back.
