That slow-mo of Hamilton with the rear tires doing... whatever the hell that was... was absolutely bizarre.
what is the significance of these pistons? Also didnt Haas run this new engine last week? If there was ever a time to break it out...now is the time mercedes will walk qualifying likely with a 1-2 and with their engine power it will make getting by them in the race a TALL order. Maybe if we have a new engine we can challenge
Damn...the first time I saw that video. So much for him just making excuses...that was definitely one of the most bizarre things I've seen.
Rumor is pistons on next evolution of engine are supposed to be 3D-printed (additive manufacturing) instead of the usual forged and machined ones. The idea being that the pistons can be optimized in weight (for same, or higher, strength and stiffness) by selective material placement, including having voids like in built-up honeycomb structures. Also read on an Italian site that these will be steel (because of expected higher combustion pressures) though not sure how the different thermal expansion between steel and aluminum block would be worked out. Latest news is that Ferrari will not use this at Monza and that Haas used older spec (albeit new engine) at Spa.

I don't think he failed at Mclaren, i believe Mclaren failed him, and Switching him for magnussen was clearly a mistake.....

Ferrari to hold back its engine upgrades - F1technical.net Ferrari was expected to introduce its last specification engine for its home Grand Prix in a bid to decrease its slight power deficit to Mercedes. However, the Italian team will not use new engines in Monza, they will instead run the unit they introduced in Silverstone and used in the following Hungarian and Belgian GP. This unit is also set to complete its fourth appearance. “We don’t have a new engine for this weekend,” Sebastian Vettel confirmed it in FIA’s press conference on Thursday. The German quadruple champion is confident that Ferrari's decision will bear fruit later in the season.
