Sounds great! If I'm not mistaken, the UK Owners' Club is the oldest Ferrari Club in the world. I'm sure the events they organize must be absolutely mesmerizing!

We all learn from eachother. Talking about and sharing our passion for the 458 is a very nice task indeed!

The fact that the 458 is the slowest depreciating car is a tribute and homage to a very unique and special Ferrari, in all of the brand's history.

One thing that seems quite curious, namely after 488 deliveries hit cruising speed, in southern Europe at least: not that many pre-owned 458 for sale. Market has a lot of F430s, more than 458 in most countries. 458s? Not so much. And the appearance of pre-owned 488s seem to have little effect so far on 458's prices. This is a personal and regional assessment, I'm sure it may not be universally true.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

They certainly seem to be holding their price well in the UK. As others have said if comparing prices always compare like with like. I always use Ferrari main dealers for my comparisons as that is the only place I would buy one from. If you want to use back street dealers or private sales then only compare those to understand the trend.
My Speciale which I had from new has gone up by around 100k and my 458 Spider which I bought 4 years old just over a year ago is at exactly the same as I bought it. Having said that the original owner took a 40k hit on it. Even then not bad for 4 years usage.
I think the reason that the 488 is not so liked is that the turbo engine has given brilliant performance and drivability but taken away the sense of occasion a high revving NA gives. If you want it as a daily driver it is probably better but the number of Ferrari drivers who do that is relatively small. My daily driver is a Porsche 991.2 Carrera with the new 3.0 TT engine. It is practical, has reasonably good performance and is fairly fun to drive. But is it a sense of occasion probably not. What sums it up me is that I always drive the Porsche in auto mode and Ferraris always on the paddles and never in auto mode.

I totally agree with most of what is said on this thread.. my 458 spider I bought for $235K from a dealer 15 months ago, are listed for about the same today. So, I will be keeping it when I buy the 488 spider. I suspect it my increase in value over the next 5-10 years..

On another note, I made a downpayment for a 840hp Dodge Demon, with a price at around $86k, and should get mine later this fall. I strongly suspect that will be a hit-in-the-wallet for the next couple of years (even with only 3,300 made)...

Amen to that, Berg! Good things will come to all 458 owners who resist the temptation of flipping their cars and take good care of them.

    Regarding the Demon: sounds fun!

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

So the trick is not to open the door ? ;)

I really really LOVE the look of the 458.
IMO the best Ferrari design since the F40.

I can see a day of ownership.
But that day is 10 years from now.
For me an exotic has to make financial sense to justify it.

They WILL depreciate more... after all there are 20K+ of them.
Just like the 430, 360, 355, etc etc.
Eventually they will bottom out and then turn upward.
The 458 has a lot of things going for it.
The last of the NA engines is prime.
Many people buy Ferraris just for the sound.
9K of flat plane V8 is hard to argue with.

However if I were to buy a newer Ferrari today it would be a 599.
It's the more pragmatic sister not the looker.

This is, imho, the most important fact that the market seems to be acknowledging right now, and keep on doing so in the coming years. A milestone car for Ferrari. Get them while you can, namely the Speciale.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Eilig, the very last new Pininfarina design in all things V8 from Maranello (The California T still bears the plaque and came out later than the 458, but it's not a new design, a mere upgrade of the 2008 California). The all-time last is the F12. The California is a great daily driver, it's a shame it'll never overcome the Maserati/not-a-proper-Ferrari stigma. Believe me I know, I own a Mondial! :D

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Why do you guys keep saying it's the last NA. Ferrari never said that. For all you know Ferrari could be building a special NA edition and all your hopes will be lost.

the last model designed by Pininfarina with the Central V8 is
    the 458 spider
This is also the reason for the extra value of the spider.

...and the super coast in the next 5 years

    Hello everybody !

Very interesting to read about the 458 from so many different points of vue ( owners, non owners, Europeans , North Americans , petrolheads or collectors)...

If I may I will also give my opinion... I own a 458 Italia for 6 month now.... I worship the engine the chassis the gearbox and the design.... I truly believe like the majority that this car is a very exceptional car and will certainly have a bright future through ages... nevertheless I follow the recommendations of il Commendatore and drive it as much as I can and preferably as if I just stole it ... I puted 13k km on it so far... gentlemen rallies through Europe... track days.... petrolhead reunions.... Sunday drives in the countryside...the plan is to enjoy at least 20 years and pass it to my children ... and if what we all think is true... and if well maintained.... those cars will keep value even with high milage like 993 or other classic masterpiece... enjoy and drive !
    Regards
    Alain

If you can afford both cars, just keep the 458 and buy the 488. If you don't like the 488, then trade it in for the spot on 812, if you like. Don't sell the 458. People had even sold the 488 to buy back the 458.

    Great post, Alain!

It's also interesting that many 458 owners aren't willing to part company with their pride and joy in the foreseeable future. A sign the car is really special. We'll move on to more modern things, even within the Ferrari range, but no matter how many other cars I may have, no matter how many other Ferraris sleep in my garage, the only one I'll never part ways with until I die is the 458.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

last year in the uk over 100 458's were for sale, this year 70. I am trying to find a low mileage rosso corsa coupe, 13/14. None on the market so having to get dealer to find one. Prices are to $ and selling quickly.

It's pretty comical how some people love love love their 458 or any of the Ferrari brands and hardly any of them drive the car. What's the point? Is it just to say you have one in your garage? When people ask me if I own a Ferrari I say no I drive a Ferrari. The dealers most definitely "prop up" the cars when they sell them. Bring the same car back to them for trade with a few thousand miles on it and they look at you like you have 2 heads. "You mean you actually drove it?" "Sorry its only worth this much now." If you own a Ferrari that's 3-4 years old with a couple thousand miles on it just sell it and buy a poster of the car.
