Several Skip Barber cars sold at Mecum in Monterey. I saw 2 Miatas, $8500 and $8000 and a Porsche 911 for in the 20's. Looked like good prices, but the Miatas were strictly track cars and the Porsche may have been ridden hard and put away wet.

I worked for Skip for a summer around 1981 or 82. It was an interesting job. At that time the cars were in pretty good shape and well maintained, but the support vehicles were fairly beat. The trucks and trailers were used pretty hard. Sad to see a good legacy come to and end like this

Skip sold the school in 1999.

George Barber, the Birmingham dairy magnate and motorcycle enthusiast, built Barber Motorsports Park in 2001-2002.

    No connection.

Those were the good old days. Pretty much up to 2006-2007, when Michael Culver bought out the rest of his partners and longtime folks started leaving.

The real hey-day was the Eighties and Nineties, IMO. Best instructors, mechanics and curriculum...

At Laguna Seca this past weekend, I saw a 911 with Skip Barber livery and a banner across the windshield saying it was part of a liquidation sale.

Ha! It was actually driving along an access road at the track when I saw it, but it looked scruffy.

Consider Bridgestone Racing School at Mosport Ontario (now called Canadian Tire motorsport track). They have a separate school track. I took their training. You would then be comfortable on the big track at Mosport which is a fairly high speed track with many elevation changes-not forgiving. By the way a great track for your Ferrari.

Agreed. When I went in 1986 my instructors were Harry Reynolds, Paul Brand and <drum roll please> John Paul Jr.
One of my classmates was Twister who had already been through Jim Russell and, I think, Bertil Roos and went on to work for Skip at LRP. He had some trouble with over-revs and listening skills as I recall.

I went to Skip in 1999 in Sebring. Wonderful experience went on to do the Formula Dodge race series including a weekend at Laguna Seca. (Best race ever!)

    So sad to see.

    Please define "giving away".
I looked at the list and called. I was told the formula cars were $11k-25k. Judging by the list only 7 are complete & running cars which would seem to say a lot about the condition of the fleet. Must have been already picked over.
I remember one of the instructors telling me they had engines stacked like cord wood, this was in '09. Still 50 left.
    Who needs a Neon engine?

Yes, new owners, I've seen them at the Philadelphia and New York Auto Shows this year. I think they are based in NJ now.

Can anyone search the bankruptcy filings and figure out what the new owners paid, and what exactly they bought?

    Thanks,

I talked with one of their representatives when I was at the New York Auto Show. He told me that they only bought the intellectual property. They didn't buy any of the cars since most of them were in really bad shape. Right now they are only running some track-prepped Mustangs, but plan on adding open wheel cars by September. I was also told that they hired the previous chief instructor.
