Not just sentimental...I think he's kept the "old goat" because he knows it's reliable and will tie him over during the times the 720 is laid up in the workshop ;>

sorry it was a Gt3 rs in white and no gt2rs. And tracking my Gt3rs aswell as the 675lt i can garantie you, same driver skills, the Gt3rs stands no chance vers the Lt, let alone the 720s.

The GT3 RS has a serious power deficit; maybe it could get close on a track with only tight corners but as soon as there is even a short straight line to let the power talk it's over. I guess a 488 GTB will also beat a GT3 RS on most tracks.

Yes of course, my post was adressed to Shadowfax who said the porsche let the 720 for dead...

I would have suspected a much bigger gap between the 720s and 488 at the ring with the way some of you talk about it.

I was lucky to have my 488 at the Ring the same day an Englishman had his 720S there. I have been told I drive well. The 720S driver (and his wife/mistress) blasted past me on the end straight like I was a gear down, which I wasn't. I don't understand. It that because my car is heavier or because it's way down on grunt?

Good for you. You'll have to explain what was interesting. It was just some guy saying stuff to raise his YouTube status. Why would you give him any cred?

Don’t know anything about the guy but he owned the car and was giving his opinion. Discard it if you wish but it’s anfirst year car and that several owners are having issues should be no surprise.

Because thats not the first person who has a 720s who made a YouTube mentioning issues with them.

Did he fake the car smoking in the video from just 1 side of the exhaust?

I've been fortunate to have had all of my cars be reliable. Funnily my least reliable car is my S class. Constant break issues and car has less than 10k miles. I would be extremely annoyed if one of cars had issues straight from factory much less if it was over $300k.

With that said. The first year of production of these super sports cars can be so-so in terms of build quality. Better to wait a year and let the bugs get worked out.

Sorry..looked like a new 2rs but I guess that's a Porsche problem with the 3 and 2 so barely distinguishable. Either-way, on the vid the 3rs stayed ahead. I imagine if it were a 2rs it would have been an outright slaughter. Not saying the 720 isnt faster in a straight line on a billiard table surface but therein lays the problem. Being faster can mean nothing if the chassis cant deal with the road surfaces in the same way as the competing slower car can. On my last country run we had a 650 and a 458 amongst 2 turbo porsches (991's) and the 650 was left for dead - the driver was very experienced too. The problem was the 650s kept bottoming out really badly and scraping on the undulations at high speed and the roads were pretty good. Over drinks that night he said maybe in 50 years mac will be able to make a car like the porsche. I applauded his honesty. The 458 otoh was right up there with the 911's and we were not messing around. If the 720 bottoms out like 650 then it would be see you later 720.

I would agree with this. The gt3rs's strong suit is much like the speciale's in that regard - makes some nice noises giving the user the feeling they are going fast until the competition reminds them of reality. No disrespect to either, either.. both utterly sensational cars, but in different company they are not in the same race. And both their chassis is better suited to smooth race track type surfaces meaning on open road in variable conditions (like most of the time) lesser machines can give some unexpected curry. So, its not just all about hp and numbers (720). Build, reliability, resale, and being able to mix it up in the everyday are the ultimate measures.

Trying to take anything from some yahoo on YouTube and extrapolate things out of it is just terrible... no different than the news morons trying to read crap into the Vegas shooting guys mindset... without clear facts from reliable sources all you have is a video and no supporting facts... if that's the way you live your life have at it I far prefer to act more like the FAA facing a plane incident in that speculation is never a consideration only what you can prove from reliable avenues. That video was "some guy" we know nothing about showing things he cannot and will not prove. The fascination with youtube videos being some sort of valid source of facts is just mind-blowing especially considering that particular source... same thing when someone posts a video of two cars drag racing people seem to go off on them without knowing anything... just so silly. This seems to go right to the heart of "I saw it on the internet so it must be true!"

I'd make that another 1 + 49 years from what I've personally seen, and heard about macs to date.
720's numbers were looking good though...until 991gt2rs beat 7 minutes at the ring....and im sure with no scraping and bottoming out all the time like that mac 720 did in that vid. Now that would give you the ....s! I guess the upside is the Mac would get lighter after every lap losing all that carbon fibre on the bitumen lol. Fred Flintstone's car comes to mind..

Are you aware that the 720s of Robert Mitchel (Video) was a test car provided by Dörr Group.. Would you attack with a test car on the green hell..
or would you just let pass other cars witch are attacking, and be safe with your test car..
The 2015 Sportauto supertest time for the 991 GT3Rs (driven by Christian Gebhard 2015) was 7:28 min on the Nordschleife and the 720s just put a 7:14 min on the same track with the slower Driver (Horst van Saurma). The 2012 Mp 4-12c had 7:28 in 2013, so the same time as the harcore gt3Rs in 2015..
(an other Story is the recently and heavy modified 991 GT3RS by Manthey witch had a 7:10)
This is a Delta of 14 sec, and the 720s is the Standard GT car, no wing, no extra weight reduction, no extra soft tyres (Trofeo R)
The 918 had a time in the Supertest, also driven by Horst von Saurma of 7.13 min...

Otherway round, put a factory race driver on the 720s, put the trofeo R (as Porsche did with the very soft tyre on the RS), rent the track (Nordschleife, as Porsche did with the 991GT2Rs) and this car will performe around 6:55min.
Why, because the time delta between Horst von Saurme 918 time of 7.13 min and Porsche official time for the 918 6:57 is around 20 sec..
This aplies as well to the Aventardor SV, time Delta of factory time Nordschleife to Sportauto supertest was aswell 20 sec.

It would be completyl wrong in general to mix up, official numbers by Porsche or lamborghin from the nordschleife with Sportauto und Autozeitung (mag times)
this means aswell a 488gtb with a time of 7:21 would be close to 7:00 with a factory driver, closed track special compound as Porsche and Lambo ar doing for
    their magic times

It looks that you and your friend made completly different experience as i with my cars on the track and mostly on the nordschleife

Well concerning the GT3RS reliability and quality i dont now what are your expeirence, Mine were pretty bad. wheels were rubing badly on the track, hat to get new suspension by Kw and other aligment to fit as factory set up was UNUSABLE on the track
Engin replacment, Pdk needed a fix.. and this with just 3000km track use.
675 Lt on the otherhand was no problem at all just one replaced windsheeld, 2500km track use

To answer you as briefly as possible, the 720 scraped all over the place on the ring, you can hear that happening quite a number of times - and it seems to be a common problem with the Mac going on what my friend experenced. My friend loves the look of his 650 and the acceleration (coming from a 991GT3) but he was being honest with his assessment on the Mac. He had no need to defend a car he no longer has....just calling it as it is. The 650 couldn't keep keep up with the 458 or 911tt/s on country roads - was way way back. Now if the 720 scrapes like that, in the real world it's game over amongst "slower"cars. Maybe it's fine cruising up and down the boulevard and on billiard table freeways like Autobahn, but on variable road surfaces where these cars do most of their sporty driving time it wont keep up without inflicting major damage to the underside of the car and suspension. The higher the speed the worse it gets.
In so far as mixing up numbers, the numbers of the 991GT2rs are official whether Porsche rented the track or not. Can 720 beat that? Even with slicks and a big wing on the tail I doubt it, but I am happy to be stood corrected. Incidentally 720's aero was not quoted as being an issue, in fact they were saying it had tons. The car is fast - no questions there. But fast isn't the only yardstick when claiming (or justify it) is as being better than the competition....as I mentioned previously....maybe in another 50 years..

so how can such a bad car be 7 sec faster than the 488gtb and 14 sec faster than the 991Gt3rs, let alone the 458 speciale
Do you make your judgment based on a youtube video.. I dont know were you live but you are more than welcome to join me on the Nordschleife with my 675lt or the upcoming 720s. Maybe that gives you a first hand experience about how capable this cars are. Drop me a pm if you are in Germany and like to join a ring ride

Did they release any further acceleration times you can share? I just can't get into Nring times. Everything about the situation can change a lap up to 5-10 seconds. Weather, condition of track that day, how drivers feeling even. does the mag rent out the whole track? If not there is traffic and was that heavier or lighter than other times? Did the driver become better at driving or driving that track over the last few years. If so you can't compare current times to past times. And everyone loses their mind over a few seconds here or there. Come on guys they are cars...

it is not as inconsistent as we may think, but you are correct unless not same day same condition a lot off variables. Sportauto and Autozeitung normaly do have just a short time to set there lap without trafic. I think if remember well 1 warm up and i full trhottle. Driver stays the same for
the mag. So it is for most brand the same messurment procedure by those 2 mags

Unfortunately not. I found out this morning it wasn't a supertest, just a basic test. And rumor's going around 'bout a 7:08 on trofeoes for the 720s, and 6:52 for gt2rs with Sport auto.

A mag test of the GT2RS only 5s slower than the official factory time would be astonishing.

In all cases the GT2RS destroys the 720S with much more margin than the 720S beats the 488, and the GT2RS has less power than the 720S and does not use a carbon tub.

That's what I call proper engineering.
