In case you did not see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZXEiviHXLs Rev go to about 7,800 rpm in LC and with part throttle, apparently.
Yes, my 2017 488 GTB is like in the video, 7800 rppm reading of scale ist OBD 2 real 7750 U/min and absolutely limit in LC mode (and with part throttle, which makes no sense). In auto mode/manual mode lower see video, 7500 -7600 rpm. So I am little bit disappointed, My ( future) 720 S makes 8500 rpm like quoted from Mclaren, optimal gear switch 8200 U/min independend from auto// LC mode, in manual you can hit rev limiter at 8500 rpm
Of course, this is minor in the grand scheme of things. It's just a bit confusing when the spec of max power output is at 8000 rpm yet you can't reach 8000 rpm. I bought an ODB2 logging device and will get some logs when I get a chance.
8000 was a marketing symbol, because announced 7500 real trs instead of the 9000 trs ot the previous generation wasn t possible !
As I've said many times, nothing will ever justify why Ferrari has made the decision to spoof they 488 buyers. I'm quite frankly shocked that the media didn't ripe this wide open. It's like they're paid off to keep there mouths shut. I've owner 53 cars, many of which high performance, and never owned a car that didn't rev to the advertised red line, and in almost every case slightly above. I wish there was an official answer, but I have not been able to find one. PS: I've always preached "under commit, over deliver"... Get it Ferrari
I have the problem that in auto mode engine is running in rev limiter at 7500 U/min up to 0.3 s -0.5 s before shifting but only at shift vom 4 th to 5 th gear, also in race mode. As anyone same problem?
I still haven’t used my ODB II logger yet and I rarely use auto mode. However, in manual mode, I noticed 4th to 5th is where I find this lower rev limit troublesome. It seems it’s an even lower rev limit than 7500rpm from 4th to 5th full throttle in non-PS (that’s what’s on the US button) mode.
Yes , rev limiter is from 4th to 5th gear 7400 rpm, in 2nd and 3rd 7650 rpm (in manual mode also), so rev limiter is not exactly stable, it is vary from gear to gear, So when shifting manual , I have to remind that at shift from 4th to 5th gear rev limiter comes earlier, that is annoying.
720s seems to be different than 488. in 488 you hit rev limiter before it actually red lines in the display. 720s the rev limiter in the display shows that you will hit it at 7500 rpm but it allows you to go past it and shift at the points you mentioned. I was pretty confused first time on track and thought I was hitting the limiter at 7500 rpm in 720s. I had mclaren do some data logging and then tried it again. It does hit the limiter in the points mentioned in the manual. I told them that they may want to move the red lines to the actual limiter -
imo ferrari doesn't need to pay off media bc the media cars DO rev to 8k! That's how they get such amazing performance in the tests. Ferrari has been sending media cheater cars since forever
Do your research before making ignorant comments. All the media test cars and demo cars also had a rev limit of 7500rpm.
So they (Italians) cheat with curb weigh, power, performance, acceleration and now this. No to mention about all that journalist cars tuned-up. I think I will skip 488. Maybe with the next gen they will set their minds right.
Im sure you're sarcastic but reality is ferrari is best regardless of cheating so why do it? Be like porsche whos cars always out perform factory claims. Ferrari should be above this by now.
That's both unsubstantiated and false. People in here have measure their cars and they are in line with what the test cars achieve. Moreover, revving higher does not necessarily equate to higher performance and that's especially true for turbocharged engines.
All I can say is, for those who would skip the 488 because of 500 revs: you don’t know what you’re missing!!!! Best, Paul
Definitely keeping my 488 GTB. It’s strange the 4th to 5th rev limiter is 7400 rpm and I’d like to understand more. It’s likely “this is how it is”. I’m secretly hoping there’s a better answer than that but I should know better.
me too, but problem is, rev limiter is different from gear to gear, lowest rev limits are in 4 th gear with 7400 rpm, 2 nd gear is 7650 rpm, driving in manual mode, you have to remind rev limits of each gear.
I agree. There was no need for Ferrari to choose this path. You paid top dollar for a top car that in practice and on the road, doesn't do what on paper the maker says it does. That is indeed puzzling. I assume that that "floating" rev limiter has to do with some technical aspect/constraint (?) Kind regards, Nuno.
Why is this such a debated topic ? Ferrari have boost by gear. Their ECU programmers with real engine dyno's have mapped everything. Its all integrated. Gee there is no doubt in my mind that is also looks at all the other sensors and inputs them in the loop. This engine is Forced Induction, NOT Normally aspirated. What Ferrari has done is a great thing. Feel sorry for the 458 owners living in high altitude , they might have a higher red line but their power drastically goes down.
