After reversing my 575 into my garage following a recent run, I noticed to my dismay a trail of drops on the ground, following its path. Further inspection revealed them to be not oil (phew) or anything other than water - not windscreen wash fluid either, just water, odourless. The car was hot after a spirited 100 mile run but this water was cold. It evaporated leaving no trace after an hour or so.
What could be the source of water from a 575? The only thing I can think of is harmless condensation from some part of the AC system. But maybe I am very expensively wrong..?

Sounds like water condensing in the A/C evaporator housing and coming out the drain tube, completely normal.

I once owned a Jaguar in which it used to drip onto the passenger's legs!

Obviously the drains for the A /C were clogged. It happens easily, you don't need much dust/debris for that. I had the same problem in my 456GT all sorted now, but the difference was that in the 456 it would just leak into the RH footwell (not good!) and in the XJ6C if I took a tight turn to the left, water would splash out of the side vent directly over the passenger's feet! A foot bath! :D

There are two drain tubes in the classic XJ Delanair system, one on each side of the transm. tunnel.

    Cheers,

That's the exclusive passenger-zone foot spa package! Very popular in certain markets.

My 456M did that because the drain was clogged with crickets (!) - I assume the previous owner stored the car in a barn or something - and it was VERY EXPENSIVE to repair because the water killed an ECU.

You should check that drain to make sure it's clear every so often.
