Any early GTs still used privately for Grand Touring ?

Gone out in a GTO for rides on public roads; parking and having lunch.

Longer trip more difficult as they are quite noisy.

 

Same with a factory sefac swb. Up to crater lake, nice lunch in the lodge. Fun trip!

Have done the school run in the ‘new’ 330 America recently... and a few drives to the coast from London for sailing or work. Does that count? I’m definitely using it...

Like Mike I too own a '72 GTC/4, currently undergoing a total engine rebuild after 105K miles. It too has taken many long trips; around New England, Maryland and back a couple of times, the Glena couple of time, twice to Road America and last year to Columbus OH and back. Had planned to drive to Monterey last summer but the engine was not ready in time. It has only let me down once in 11 years. Drive them all you can and they are happy.

Going thru my log book today made me think of this thread. We've covered about 18 thousand miles in the 14 years with our 250GT and about 3/4 of that is between the Bay Area and the Central Coast, and the Bay Area and the North Coast for overnighters. One thing for sure about using your car this way is that you are always conscious of the state of tune and dependability of the car.

I know of two owners here in Chicago who drive their 275 GTB and 250 Lusso regularly.

Us GTE folk like to use our 250s

Being at the "affordable" end of the 250 world perhaps helps.
I would say they are less likely to be targeted by specialist robbers, but there again the last 250 I heard of being stolen was a GTE.
I guess if one were to be involved in a fender bender the damage would cost a higher proportion of the cars value to properly repair than on say a SWB, but values are high enough now to stop the insurance companies writing the car off so it would be repaired.

Insurance for classic cars is reasonably priced (at least in my price bracket of 100-400 k GBP), so if you are covered against theft and well enough to repair accident damage properly, why not use the car?
We don't suffer in the way "young timer" owners do from increased mileage destroying value.

 

+1000 the more the Daytona has gone up in value the more I have driven it for pretty much the same reasons as you.

We had a great run, 1200 miles to Midland, 1200 miles of rallying, 1200 miles back to SD...had to add a quart of oil though, bummer. It was great to see you, see you in Colorado. Remember the White Cow bar?

Yes - my 330 is a driver and you will see it at The Radcliffe/Yang event every year ( about 250 miles each way). And I am not the only driver there. Yes, I know that is a bit older than you specified, but it is almost in range.
