When Max was asked for comment after the race by Will Buxton, Max asked "Can I swear"? He has a bit more presence of mind than his father, I think that Jos winds him up.

Jos was referred to as "Jos The Boss" back in the day. Apparently saying "Jos the Vulgar Twit" didn't rhyme as nicely.

    I agree here.

Max looked pretty disciplined when he left the podium room. Just escorting Kimi into the room was a really crappy way to inform Max that a penalty had lost him the podium. An official should have informed Max first and allowed him to leave before they brought Kimi in. As it was, it was a pretty awkward moment and the lack of tact was a slap in the face to the young Dutchman.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Max needs to simply stop talking about this. Its over. Mexico is soon. The press might not leave it be, but he can simply say he has nothing further to add on the issue and move on.

Maybe someone up high figured he needed to be brought down a peg or two...... with Maxine's comments afterwards, they were right. He has to grow up a bit, we all want to see exciting racing (even though he seems to be very harsh against ferrari or his own teammate, but let's the Mercedes do what they like), but it has to be fair, and he has to at least try to accept the criticism when he gets it wrong. Driving across the curbs is not allowed, so he took his chance, and got caught, get over it, calling people names after the event just makes him look like a dipstick

Verstappen refuses to retract idiot insult

Max Verstappen says he will not apologise for calling an F1 steward an "idiot" after the US grand prix.

Just before walking onto the podium in Austin, the Dutchman was told a penalty for his last-lap move on Kimi Raikkonen had cost him third place.

Verstappen, his father Jos and Red Bull reacted with fury.

The 20-year-old driver even called one of the stewards - named by Dutch media as Australian Garry Connelly - a "mongool".

It translates to "mongol", and the insult upset a Down Syndrome group.

"It was said in the heat of the moment and of course I did not mean to hurt anyone," Verstappen told Ziggo Sport Totaal on Monday when told about the reaction to his 'mongol' comment.

But to English-language reporters, Verstappen also called the steward an "idiot", and contrary to reports elsewhere, he is refusing to retract that insult.

"I'm really not angry anymore," he told De Telegraaf newspaper.

"I had a super race and that is now the dominant feeling. But I called the steward an idiot and I will not take it back."

That is despite the fact it is believed the FIA is looking into whether the insult has brought the sport into disrepute.

But Verstappen says it is his responsibility to criticise where he sees fit.

"It was just unfair, and myself or Red Bull cannot even appeal," he said. "That is ridiculous and it has to change.

"It is my duty as a driver to indicate if something in formula one is a big mistake. And that is a big mistake."

Entitled and really in poor taste. He is not the FIA or a Steward. He has chosen his words poorly. Grow up Max. You drive a car. Thats all.

Max will be looking at a race ban if he’s not careful, the MIA won’t like him calling stewards names and then refusing to apologise as well

Mongool doesn't carry the same weight as is translated here. It's similar to idiot, rarely does it actually refer to someone with down syndrome.

Vettel called charlie to **** off last year, nothing happened. That was on the world wide broad cast, in English. Verstappen said it to Dutch TV and blown out of proportions. I think he's right to stand his ground and I'm impressed with him not apologizing so far. Stand behind what you say.

That does not act together...On one side he says that it was said in the heat of the moment and that it was not intended to hurt someone but then he does not want to apologize??? So either he means it, then he wanted to hurt the person he said it about or he didn´t mean it then he should apologize, both together does not work

What ever happened to the Grand Prix Drivers Association ?
Apart from track and driver safety, they often acted as mediator twixt F1 and drivers.

It would appear that all the stewards want a nice clean race, a procession would be perfect, and certainly no overtaking...and my God, should anyone upset Ferrari....don't even go there. With the exception of Max and a couple of others, we havn't got a real race.
If drivers of the calibre of MV have to think twice about an overtake...just in case some armchair 'expert' in race control is watching, then the F1 isn't worth watching.
Not suggesting it should be a ''free for all' out on the track......just fairness towards all participants.......
penalising one competitor and letting everyone else off....at their discretion. Unfair.
As for ''that'' overtake in particular.......Kimi knew he was in danger of loosing 3rd.......so he should have closed the corner off, and could have done.
Now he knows MV can get where water doesn't flow......another lesson learned.

Max is so annoying. At this point I genuinely feel he is more annoying than Elton Hamdasian. This guy who Max is whining about has probably been told to watch Max. The mongo will need to raise this boy Max as his own. Lol

Verstappen steward Salo received death threats

Former F1 Mika Salo says he received death threats after deciding to penalise Max Verstappen in Austin last Sunday.

Although Australian Garry Connelly received the brunt of the blame, Salo was also on the stewards panel that decided Verstappen's last-lap pass on Kimi Raikkonen was illegal.

It cost the furious Dutchman a podium, but F1 sporting chief Ross Brawn backs the stewards' call.

"The punishment was technically correct, but hard," he said.

Verstappen's F1 rival Nico Hulkenberg said he feels for the 20-year-old driver.

"In a thousandth of a second you make a decision, so I can understand Max's side," the German told Sport1. "It was just an unfortunate situation."

Unfortunate perhaps, but that hasn't stopped some of Max's fans from releasing their fury.

Austin steward Salo is quoted by De Telegraaf newspaper: "I have received several death threats, especially from the Netherlands.

    "That should never be tolerated."

F1 boss Brawn says the important thing is that the sport learns from the controversy.

"Once the dust settles, we need to look at this together with the FIA and the teams," he said.

"Technology is becoming better and better in helping regulators across sports, including the Bundesliga or Serie A in Italy," Brawn explained.

"In formula one, we have everything we need for excellent video technology. We then need to find ways to translate that technology into precise and consistent judgements."

But too many close barriers cause more accidents and red flag delays with clean-up operations.

Remember the long delay at Silverstone 2014 after Kimi's first lap crash.

So not the Steward that was noted in the past penalties for Max. Very stupid this all is. He left the track. End of. Now death threats. Some fans need to get medicated.

Montreal is the perfect example of a good aggressive circuit that does not reward sloppy driving. Its easy to keep them on track. Period.
