The other day in class I was telling one of the students his work reminded me of an AMC Pacer...........to which he replied......"what is an AMC Pacer?"

It does , and one of the 2000's Lancia prototypes mixed together. Kind of a masculine design for Honda. They usually use kitchen appliances as inspiration.

More photos of the Mazda...The rear end treatment is very 1960's Italian. I will take this front end over a Kamm house brick front end anyday of the week. And they still managed to get a big grill on the car!! I think the car will look even better with a chopped wheelbase.

How are the students responding to this Mazda? Taut surfacing and without conflicting lines/forms. In other words, what some of us call old school good design.

 

I love the Mazda. The ‘kids’ liked it also. They were all quite positive about the surfacing and the cleanliness of the design for the most part.

 

Here is the rest of the set from Mazda. The compacts backend could be better. They should bring the side windows back more or straighten the bottom sill IMO... Someone should drop these on Marchionne's desk and ask if the Italians have lost their mojo

for my 2 cents your treatment changes the balance. It lightens the back of the car. The weight appears to be better distributed on the back end of the car in the factory version. Great visual reworking of that picture!!!

The red coupe in post #5589 is stunning in it's simplicity and looks like water would not even stick to it. While at the same time the car appears production ready with no big changes needed to actually use it...

The RX Vision design has a purity that the Toyota show cars can not even come close to achieving in their contrived efforts.

I'm not sure one is 'better' than the other, just different. OfTwo Worlds point is well taken, your version does 'lighten' up the C pillar area and maybe the Mazda version has more 'visual character'. Nice job by the way. The Mazda design team is on a roll at this point. Now lets see if they can follow through to production.

 

IMHO, the second picture looks much "cleaner."

 

Do the back window the same as on the vision coupe. These hatchback side windows might look cute but they throw the overall lines of the car off making them look tail heavy and blunt as you say. Everybody seems to be doing it on a few of their hatchbacks.

 

Also if Mazda was smart they would pick up on the concave rear end treatment and put it on all their cars in one form or another. Mazda should expand on their current design language as it is somewhat generic now.

 

Possible S2000 successor looks like a baby NSX

Not a fan of NSX styling, but it does look like an improvement. The "clay" renditions suggest a targa top.

The historic and iconic GMDesign still resonates 60 years later. The Tech Center was designated an historic landmark several years ago.

Interesting the article does not credit the designer/s of the addition, only the modeler....

 

I agree with John. What you have done is create an a viable alternative proposal. There is more than one way for a solution; potentially something like your's could have been on the wall or even taken to the opposite side of the clay.

Pretty cool ....for a race car....not sure what difference it makes to "the rest of us"......no new ground visible....quite a bit 'busier' that the FXXK evo......same target audience......?yawn....? (jaded much?)
