This is why they have contracts..no need to pay him a big 'exit' fee. He won't be coming back short of a financial collapse of papa Stroll (highly unlikely) or young Lance having a big one ( hope that does not happen ) .

Felipe has had a good innings,but with all the new drivers in the wings it is time to bow out.

 

I think he's right, he's as good as the guys they are getting in, if not better, save kubica but that's only if kubica is the old one, we don't know if the new one will be any good at all, and I have my doubts after this long and so many changes to f1 in general. Stroll will never be at the level Williams need him to be, so they had better be sure that their replacement performs or Felipe could be on speed dial again!

 

Massa is replaceable. There are plenty of excellent young or experienced drivers out the all desperate for his seat. He retired once because he had reached the end of his career and was only forced back into the car out of desperation after Merc poached Bottas.

The bigger shambles is not who fills Massa's seat, but how Williams can justify to their fans retaining that utter waste of space Stroll. In the corporate world, the entire Williams top management team would be fired for that degree of incompetence.

 

Massa was playing the company man here. If Williams offered him another contract he would have jumped at it. But they weren't so the only thing to do gracefully is "retire".

 

Yep just weeks ago he was saying Williams are wrong to consider Kubica and PdR to replace him, and he'd be happy to drive...took him too long so he best retired again just ahead of Brazilian GP.

 

Exactly. Massa wanted to "retire" in front of his home fans. He would have been even more happy to announce a new contract in front of his home fans but Williams isn't letting him come back.

But Stroll is....

 

I'd love to see Kubica take the seat but much rather would be great if Ferrari can sponsor Leclerc's seat, he'd be great in a somewhat competitive car, much better than that **** Sauber. If it doesn't happen I'm sure the Strolls are behind it not happening...can you imagine their baby boy being completely destroyed by a rookie?

Lance Stroll needs a slower team-mate to help improve his performance in Formula 1, according to 1997 Formula 1 champion Jacques Villeneuve.

The Williams driver was running 14th but finished 16th in the Brazilian Grand Prix after picking up a flat spot that caused his left-front tyre to delaminate and forced an extra pitstop.

Team-mate Felipe Massa, who is retiring at the end of the season, finished seventh on home soil to move him back ahead of Stroll and into 10th in the drivers' championship with one race to go.

"It wasn't impressive," Villeneuve told Autosport. "He was about to get lapped by his team-mate.

"Then he blew a tyre so at least he has an excuse. It's not a weekend to remember."

When asked what his compatriot needs to do to improve, Villeneuve said: "Have a slower team-mate. He needs to find a way to go faster."

Papa Stroll will not be pleased but Williams are done. They are owned by default by this waste of time family. Sad. Im a Williams fan but they are a joke.

 

It's not often I agree with JV but that was great.

Didn't he pip him to be the future of F1 not long ago? And Max the anti-christ? I think he's made a reversal on both...later than most, but takes a man to admit his mistake .

Stroll does NOT need a slower team-mate. Williams just needs to focus on the next driver and collect the paycheck from Daddy Stroll so both his son and Dad can enjoy this expensive hobby.

Please, tell us who are the "...plenty of excellent young or experienced drivers..." that would be better than Massa. He has been trashing the young European F3 Champion all year long, has a very valuable experience with the current regulations, and is carrying the car development alone. We can argue that back then Kubica WAS more talented than Massa but now Robert is big interrogation mark. And most important, Kubica has ZERO experience with the new regulations. Williams is taking a big risk in exchange of saving money. If it's true that Massa was pulling 5MM, I bet Kubica will take less than 1MM.

I could briefly talk to Massa at Monza this year and to me seemed like he was not motivated with the noncompetitive Williams team. I bet he would like to continue next year but he knows his value and wound't drive for a lower salary.

 

Nothing else but the truth...Stroller sucks and veryone knows it...except Claire....Gotta love JV

 

Funny thing, they tried me too! somehow i still managed to come before Palmer!

 

I think the 80 year old lady in the 20 year old Suburu outback that was holding traffic up on the way home from work today doing 40 mph in a 65 mph zone got the call before Palmer.

 

Yes, that’s the problem with Stroll. All his teammates go faster than him.

If they just went slower he would do much better.

 

How to embarrass your F1 driver when he loses focus 'lance is faster than you, copy, lance is faster than you'. Who could not be totally shocked into finding the extra few tenths after a call like that
