d.r.i.v.e.t.r.i.b.e is censored in the link, but anyway this info has been posted already in the "488 GTO?" thread.
Totally agree. To each their own, of course. As much as I love the 458, and the Speciale, my issue was always the design, particularly the profile. It was just a bit dull. The 488 solved that, and I’m fairky certain the hardcore version will be insane. Can’t wait.
IMO, Speciale is far from dull. I think it is way better looking than 458 and 488. We will see how the new 488VS will look like but I think it will quite good
I'm agreed with you, for me the speciale still one of the best car I ever seen...I would like to have one in my garage. My hope indeed is to get my hands on a 488VS. What I see from those pictures it looks like is gonna be awesome. Fingers crosses to get one for me!
I really hope Ferrari don't go GTO on the 488, in terms of name nor design... Otherwise I'll never sell my 458 but I'll be all over that car (provided they don't go hybrid on me). Kind regards, Nuno.
If they name it GTO it has nothing to do with the 250/288 or 599 GTO (the 599 was an error to name it GTO ) as we all know, GTO stands for Grand Turismo Omologato and has a direct relation to the Homologation of the GT Race Cars. So was the 250 (raced successfully at Le Mans) and the 288 what was at this time the Homologation Model for a new Group B Rally Car which then never made it into Racing (but development continued and gave us the F40). Saying that, the 488 is the homologation model for the 488 GTE/GT3 Race Cars and GTO would not be completely wrong (like it was for the 599 GTO) so it would fit also if Ferrari could use some Aero Updates on the 488 VS to homologate the 488 GTE/GT3 Aero Update in 2018. Ferrari did that already, the 360 Challenge Stradale was the homologation Model for the 360 GTC. You can Identify it at the Side Skirts and the little Spoiler at the end of the Engine Hood (if you compare to the standard Modena). For me, 488 GTO could work but I would prefer 488 GTE Stradale, or, to honor the win of the 2017 World Championship in Driver and Manufacturer Championship name it 488 WEC ....
The GTO name used to denote a homologation version of a race car. Since homologation is no longer needed (they race either production based GT cars or prototypes) the GTO moniker has no real function. It's Ferrari's prerogative to bestow it on any car they wish. Also the 288 was not intended for Group B Rallying but for the stillborn Group B Racing Series (track based competition). Same rules, different animals. A common misconception. WEC would be a no go. The FIA would surely object its use.
Not to get in a pissing match BUT if you want to spilt hairs the 288 GTO "idea" was not created for Group B. It was actually Enzo"s idea as he felt that the road car were getting to far away from their F1 cars. In his words " Our road cars don't even resemble our F1 cars like they once did our endurance racing cars". He hired a renowned engineer to work on the new Ferrari Turbocharged F1 engine for the 126c during the day and the 288 GTO engine at night to align the F1 car technology as well as road car. The idea to race in group B came a lil later That all comes from this book which is a must read for Ferrari fans, especially if the 288 GTO is your favourite Ferrari like me: https://www.amazon.ca/Book-Ferrari-288-GTO/dp/1845842731 Anyways, Ford definitely understand the homologation rule with the new Ford GT. Having won the 2016 and 2017 WEC Championship, the 488 deserves the 488 GTO title. This is the perfect time for Ferrari to use it, the stars have aligned and they need to strike now as they did with the F12 tdf.......instant legend!
I’ve mentioned this before. I LOVE my 488 GTB. But, I also don’t blurr where the 488 line sits with another stratosphere. The GTO moniker is for cars at a different level in the Ferrari lineage. My guess is that Ferrari will have a name that nobody has thought about, and not a repurposed name from previous mid-engine, 8 cylinder raw versions. The wait is exciting.
It could rather be that registered interest exceeds expected supply, but "sold out" while the production number is not known and no confirmed orders have been taken (as far as I know, so far the deposits taken are not binding) might be an excessive statement.
I hope so too for all the very interested friends ... I know a lot of guys who would like to buy one (too)
Would be misleading for a road car not designed for any competition - what about "Pista e Strada" ? (or "Strada e Pista"...)
