ok awaiting a 488 GTB. Had a bulletproof 458 and F12 both of which I loved but sold both when warranty ran. Call me chicken. The F12 has been sensational. It does not get the attention my 458 got but but insane and WTH. I have never even driven a 488. Anyone else in the same position who can offer comments ? Thanks

Been there, done that. LOVED the F12, for the reasons you stated. Took a while to adapt to the 488 but love that as well. Eventually, when F12 prices drop enough I’ll have both in the stable.

I had a 488 coupe. Went back to a 458 spider due to the emotion. Much better IMO. Still getting the spider 488 though :) Just too pretty to pass up!

    458 Italia -> F12 -> 488 GTB was my path.

458 felt intense, pretty hard to beat 9k scream, ultra responsive engine.
F12 is a great GT, incredible v12 sound, lovely lines.
488 has an amazing turbo engine, fantastic sports car but can double as a GT.

    I love them all!

I have a 488 on order and as with you never drove one! I'm confident it will be a fantastic car. Likewise with thee last few exotic cars I purchased, I never drove any of them pre-purchase. I felt each would be fantastic and I was right. Not a proper strategy for everyone, but for me at least it worked and I enjoyed the first-drive excitement immensely.

A little bit off-topic... I had a 599 and could not cope with the lack of torque of a 458, the turbos on the 488 solve that (without any drawback since turbo lag is non-existent).
Having both F12 and 458 you had two opposite characters, to some extent I think the 488 is in between (it has the agility and the power - it only lacks the magic of a V12).

I usually do the same, sadly did not worked out well for previous 2 purchases17 NSX and 570S. Now I have unloaded NSX and still have 570S. Both of which had I test drove prior to purchase, I likely would not had picked up. However, it did worked out well for 488, now I can not go a day without driving 488 and I no longer drive 570S unless I need to drive further than 50miles.

488 has instant torque, great sound, looks masculine and substantial.

Lack of sound, emotion, not very fast besides initial take off (mid range to top end nowhere near 570s or 488).

Its strength is it is Lexus level of comfort and that punch off the line even without launch control. Great car overall.

$55k hit in 6 month of owning it : (

You should be aware of the prices drop. The car did not do well, the interested spiked a bit after Acura dealer offered the $30 incentive to dealers. Unfortunately, that was prior to my purchase.

I had a 458 for 3 years. Great car. Tried the F12 on the street and track. Felt like a big GT car to me. I have owned my 488 for almost 2 years. A great car. No regrets.

How is the sound in the 488 vs the 458 (debated to death but wanted your opinion :)? I had a 458 and have a 488 on order but I have never been in one…. I am considering the Capristo valve remote or a Novitec valveless exhaust system.

Never had a 712, but would love to... but agree with your comments, the 458 and 488s seem to get more attention at club, concourse and street events.. even though it is not always warranted. At cars and coffee Charlotte last month, my 488 spider got more attention than the dealership's 712, even though more expensive and a V12 (not sure why)...

Funny, actually, i am just doing exactly the same thing. I had a 458 2012-2015. Changed to F12 2015-now. And tomorrow i take delivery of my 488 spider.

For me, it was a realisation that I am a mid engined Ferrari guy. As amazing as the f12 is (and it is nothing short of sensational) i could never enjoy it the way i enjoyed my 458. Different cars for different preferences i guess.

I’d describe the 458 sound as higher dynamic range and more of a scream.
488 sounds great but it’s more of a growl and more monotone due to the turbos.

They sound amazing in their own way. To me, I’d be happy with either.

I went from 460 6 speed 3 pedal to scuderia to SLS AMG to my 458 Spider.... I definitely learned over the years first and foremost I am definitely a Ferrari guy at heart even though I am a car lover in general. Secondly I felt the SLS was a GT car and I much more prefer a V8 rear engine car. The 458 spider is definitely the best car I have ever owned.
