Looks like he did not make it.. the newspaper said: A Maysville home was in ruins late Tuesday after a car crashed into a residence causing an explosion and fire, Scott County Sheriff’s officials said. The crash and fire occurred about 11 p.m., said Scott County Sheriff’s Lt. Tara Dinneweth. The address is listed as 9470 235th St., Maysville. Skid marks leading from Maysville Road through the ditch and into the home also could be seen. When firefighters arrived on scene, the house was engulfed and flames were shooting through the roof. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I was bored and looked up the map on this address. This house is right on the edge of town where a two lane highway comes into the town. The road has a slight right bend to it (heading NNW) before it straightens out (straight N) right by the house which is on the left side of the road. I suspect he came bombing around the bend, lost it, and slammed into the front of the house (based on google maps streetview and the crash photos).
More news coming out that he was a big time farmer and farms from Iowa to the Southern US. Possibly his daughter went missing in 2007 and he has not been right eversince. Tragic all the way around. It happened at 11:00 at night so alcohol may of played a part.
No alcohol. I am Kelly’s best friend. I drove that car many times. Kelly’s daughter was kidnapped years ago by serogate mother. He paid 350,000 for getting her back to USA safe. He was a workaholic and was such a nice man. We were friends 30 years. Kelly had been in Brasil recently visiting and looking at land. He had returned a week ago and was at his farm in Paris Texas. He had been returning home from business and I had actually been on phone with him prior and he was a good driver and did not drink and drive and sounded good but somewhat tired. From the scene I believe he was running his cruise control at his normal 59mph in a 55 that he always did and he’d been up so many hours, (just trying to make another deal to make a better life for his two kids he loved so much), he fell asleep. He was a single dad for last 20 years. I suspect as he entered the curve area on the SE edge of Maysville, at 10:55pm shortly after he fell asleep and his foot mashed the gas causing increased speed, the car then started across the road hitting bumps, Kelly awoke, turned hard right and locked up the brakes, the LF dug in and made car start flipping and virtually through all his luggage out of the car, and everything else with it, the car landed in the house in a ball of fire. BTW: The car was Yellow, he wrapped it red. I have many pictures of this car and us. I like Kelly work way to many hours to try to conquer the world and as I set here in my office at 1:30am still working I wonder, “Is It All Worth It?” I lost my great friend who came to many functions of my adult kids and always pushed them to drive one of his many sports cars he owned over the years. As tears run down my eyes and my throat chokes I can only think that this is now the 2nd time in my life I lost someone due to falling asleep driving. We need cars that can sense low driver response and bring those cars to a safer stopping placé. 1985 I miss my family member who also died the same way If there is a god, I sure hope he wraps is arms around Caroline & Anthony tonight and leads those kids to continue what Kelly started. #IfURTiredPullOverAndRest! Amen My Friend & C U On The Other Side, we had a great great run they will make a movie about someday. Ur Look @Land N Day & Talk all night amigo. ^What a great tribute for a friend. You've perfectly put things into perspective. Its a terrible tragedy. So sorry for your loss and also for his family.
So sorry for your loss, and this loss from the Ferrari community. Thank you for taking the time to tell us his story. He sounds like a great dedicated man.
Barry, I first want to apoligize for the alcohol assumption. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend and a fellow Ferrari Owner. We know the risk we take driving these great over powered cars. I can't think of a worse time of year to loose a freind, may he rest in eternal peace. Thank You for writing such a great tribute. Ray
