Hey all — My 488 is arriving in a few weeks, and I’m looking into paint protection installers in Northern California. I’ve done searches across the various forums and there doesn’t seem to be much info that addresses my particular question. I’ve never had a car wrapped before so am just going off of internet recommendations (what could go wrong? ). The dealer is great and works with an XPEL installer, but it’s $3k just for a partial wrap. If I want an XPEL full wrap, it’s $10k and transport to get there. We’ve also seen some recommendations for Invisiguard that is only $5k for the full wrap (and transport is closer). One suggestion from my Fchat search was “it’s not about the material, it’s about the skill of the installer.” Any thoughts on partial vs full wraps, as well as material choice? Thanks so much!
You need to be aware paint take over 6 months to heal also any protection film still get damaged and chances are to pealing if you want replaced Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
$10k sounds really pricey for the entire car in Northern California. That's probably the most expensive region, but you should still be able to get $7000. Add in about $500-700 for paint correction before the PPF. Do not go with the dealer. They just outsource it to a 3rd party, charge you the extortion rate, pay them the market rate, and then pocket the difference for almost no effort on their end. XPEL Ultimate is probably the most famous film, but it came out in 2014. That is a lot of time for competition to catch up. This year Suntek released their Suntek Ultra film, and I feel it is the superior film. LLumar Platinum is literally the exact same film as Suntek (same film, different boxes and name), so that is an option as well. All the films I mentioned are self healing. However, XPEL is not hydrophobic unlike Suntek/LLumar. With that said, you can always ceramic coat the film to give the ultimate protection. My Speciale has a full LLumar Platinum PPF, with Gtechniq Crystal Serum ceramic coating on top.
That's not true. It just takes a few weeks to completely cure, even well before that. I had my cars wrapped right after I purchased, including the Speciale. I had cars rewrapped even after waiting 3 days for touch ups and rewrapped them again without any problems. Of course, you must have a good experienced company who knows how to peel off the old wrap.
Thanks for the suggestions. Any thoughts on Invisiguard? The local installer has really good reviews and does a number of high-end cars. Since this is going to come right from the dealer and it’s purchased new, do I still need to do paint correction as well? I will say I am not overly meticulous about these types of things, I just want to do it for general protection. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Your installer of film will advise if the car still requires more detailing. If he is a perfectionist, and my installer was, the car should look immaculate prior to wrapping. I had Expel Ultimate applied over the entire front up to the windshield,, including headlights, mirrors and the fenders up to the doors and the side skirts. Then had 3 coats of Cermic Pro applied over the entire car including the windshield and wheels. I could not believe how amazing the car looked. The shine was mirror like and water repellant qualities are superb. In Canada, price for all that was $5000.
I’ve used most of films out there over the past 10 years. Xpel was my film of choice until I switched to Suntek ultra which I had my 488 Spider done over the entire car. It is much clearer with less orange peal effect which was important for my triple layer Bianco Fuji white paint. It looks unreal! Honestly. Unreal.
Thanks all. It looks like this “Invisiguard” is a Suntek dealer so I’ll check to see if he’s applying Suntek Ultra. But seems to make sense to go with a full wrap from there. Much appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Haven't heard of Invisiguard and I have a business in the industry. Attached Is a c63s with a dealer installed clear bra. Hood is noticeably yellow compared to the rest of the car. A great place to go for suggestions is the Obsessed Garage group on facebook. I've never seen a more anal group of people anywhere. Image Unavailable, Please Login
A quick google search shows that Invisiguard is the name of an installer, not the actual film. FYI. ETL330's pic is a perfect example why you don't let the dealer do any aftermarket modifications, whether be it detailing, washing, window tinting etc. You will most likely get the worst quality whilst paying the highest dollar.
Yep, I got that after a while. Shows how little I knew about this stuff. Yelp led me astray Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
XPEL is great any psycho that tells you 10k run for your life! Dealer charges 6 and most shops no more than 5 - dont get ripped off
If you are near the bay area, these are the go to guys when it comes to perfection. http://www.premiermobilegroup.com/
I'll second the Premier recommendation. I've had a dozen cars fully wrapped there. Ask for Greg. Their workmanship is flawless. Depending on the car, you won't be able to tell it's been wrapped. They're in Fremont. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I talked to Premier but unfortunately they were at $10-11k for a full wrap. I’m going to go with the Suntek Ultra. Thanks everyone!
