Good point. Although Massa did a fine job he was not at the peak of his career--there was probably still more speed in the car.

You're probably right, but Williams put itself in a position were no good driver will be interested in a place. But they could use half a brain and get someone like J. E. Vergne who was almost as fast as Ricci, and an excelent driver, plus he was third driver for Ferrari so he has experience. Instead of looking for every new promise, perhaps they should look for the vast lot of drivers who are very talented but didn't get the chance they deserved.

I'm sad for Kubica. This stinks.

Williams is now officially nothing but a F1 rent-a-drive team. How deep they have fallen.

The soul was sold to Stroll = team as a play thing for his mildly talented son. When the boredom sets in for Stroll Sr, focus will change and Williams will be worse off than ever. When Stroll influence is gone so is the team. The only money made last year was the result of the Mercedes payment to gain Bottas.

Excellent point again. They could have JEV for how much, 3 million? If that even. Hell I'm sure he'd do it for 100K + money for each point he scores...Problem is the Stroll family getting upset then...

Things won't improve until Claire Williams is gone. When do you think that's going to happen..

This whole episode with Williams only serves to accentuate the fact that F1 as a viable entity doesn't work. When income (sponsorship, and royalties, in the case of F1) is not enough to sustain the participants in an enterprise, the model is broken. The need for pay drivers puts a premium on cash to sustain things rather than talent. The notion that F1 drivers are the best drivers in the world is the joke that proves that F1 is not really the pinnacle of motorsport. To claim that title about half or the drivers on the grid would have to be replaced

Agree, and i'm sure that if it wasn't for Ferrari, even a supertalent like Leclerc would have been without a place...that would be something, a place for Sirotkin and none for Charles...what a joke...

But the same could be said about Kubica...he certainly is not at the peak of his career either. I am actually surprised that so many people here state that an old Raikkonen is taking a place of a young hungry driver but at the same time some root for Kubica to come back...Not that Kubica is a bad driver but he certainly is not the future of F1....

Massa just said that Kubica signed with Williams right after the Abu dhabi test, aparently he was bringing 6 mil with him and the deal was done.....but Massa said that is possible that "other kind of money showed up" in the hands of sirotkin (reportadly 14 mil) and this stalled the process with robert.....so aparently they gave him more time so he could try and match the Russian's offer!

According to a friend of mine who reads all the Polish newpapers and websites, the decision won't be made until January.

I think we should have a whip-round, meet at Paul Ricard or Barcelona, and have a driver shoot out, fastest driver represents Fchat F1 forum and pays Williams to screw over the pair of em. Not that Bas will fit in the Williams at 6’5, so he’s out, and I’ve got cancer so I’d never be quick enough getting out the car with my back, Furoni would be too preoccupied with hitting Alonso every time he gets with ten feet of him, who’s left?

If there is one thing I can do is going round, and round...

Or can we not start a crowdfunding? I’d pay a fiver to see the queen have a go in the williams. She’s got a driving licence!

Yep. It's a sad commentary on F1 imho that a team the likes of Williams is now reduced to selling both of its seats to pay drivers

If I were Kubica I'd keep my 8 million and walk away from Williams and go look at Indy car (McClaren?). Come back to F1 after Australia and see which team needs the help. Hass, Toro Rosso, Sauber/Alfa...there could be some surprise openings by race two or three. And some Indy cars would get him back in racing traffic...and in the press, not as a reject but as a racer.

I'm not very impressed with Toro Rosso's drivers currently. Maybe they need a few more races as they did get thrown into the deep end, but the media whores that are Red Bull might throw Kubica in for a few races...**** when they threw that man from space Red Bull made a Billion of it...
