I was lucky enough to drive the Mas Du Clos circuit 25 years ago this September in my 246GT. A wonderful place in a
fantastic part of France, it's a terrible shame to hear what might be happening to it now.

The memories of the the drive there and back from the UK with my new wife are very special for us, especially as our
son was born 9 months later!

Going through some old pictures and came across this one, taken at the filling station in the village just outside the Mas du Clos circuit in 1989.
And yes, the kid in the F40 was strapped on his mother lap!

The amazing line up of cars at Mas du Clos has reminded me of a story about Jim Clark that I read in a magazine article a number of years ago.

It was most likely in Autosport, or maybe Motorsport, and was probably on one of the anniversaries of his death. The article was made up of memories from people who had known him. To illustrate a point about how much Jim Clark loved to drive, it was mentioned that he had spent an afternoon driving a 330 P4 around a private circuit in France with a girlfriend as passenger. Using my maths I added 330 P4 to private circuit in France and came up with Mas du Clos.

Is this story true? Was I correct to assume Mas du Clos? There cannot have been many private circuits in France at the time (prior to April 1968) where there would have been a P4. Is there any evidence that this happened? How did this opportunity come about?

Apologies if this is a well known story that has been discussed elsewhere but I have never heard or seen anything else about this.

    Robert

It could have been P3/412P #0848 which Pierre Bardinon owned from 1967 to 1990. Jim Clark died in 1968. Bardinon didn't own P4 0860 until 1970.

Article from post #162 mentions Jim Clark setting the lap record in 1967 on his first drive in a Ferrari, a P3/4 - 412 (?).

Thank you. I had missed that when I had had a quick look through that article. I think it is amazing that he did that. I wonder how it came about and if there are any photographs?

In some of the preceding posts here there is reference to Famous drivers enjoying hospitality at Mas du Clos and driving some of the cars -- In 1978 a good proportion of the cars lined up in the courtyard (of which you have only seen half!!) were driven onto the circuit by friends and very lucky senior members of the Club Ferrari France.
I must ackowledge my deep gratitude to Pierre and the Club Ferrari France for the Wonderful Mas du Clos events ( including madame Domet who organised so much and kept us in order)

    What a fantastic photograph!

I took a picture at a wedding last summer of my, then, nine year old son where his face was so full of joy. That one of Jim Clark shows the same emotion.

That would be a great one to have in a name the date/car/driver competition!
