Not that this helps your situation, but we have two great Ferrari dealers in Illinois. . A guy at Continental Autosports has been selling Ferrari's there for thirty two years. As his bio on their web sight says "integrity will only get you this far"

I'm guessing he wouldn't have told you "sorry for your luck..."

    IMHO

Will do if I don't make any progress with the dealer. Thanks!

For the money you paid for a new 488, you are entitled to get EXACTLY what you ordered.

If it doesn't really bother you then fine, but if it does then demand they make it right....you PAID for it.

EVERYTHING is on the build sheet. They can be confusing if you have never looked at one before, true.

I wouldn’t want the dealer taking apart my new 488 dash to changeout a tach. IMO

Me neither but for $300G”s plus, I think the guy should get what he paid for

Not sure if there’s a difference between the 488 and 458 as far as the tach background color, but I had inquired about changing mine from red to yellow and was told that it couldn’t be done because they don’t have just the background part. It would require changing the entire instrument cluster at great expense. Anyone know if this is true or not?

On one hand, that sounds like a dealership avoiding something they don't want to do. On the other hand, it would be typical of Ferrari to design something that way.

Either way, it is silly not to be able to change a single gauge in an instrument cluster. Like the time the tach needle broke off on my BMW R1100RS.

Of course he should. The question is how much time and hassle he's willing to endure in order to get the tach changed. I'd ask for a refund on the cost of the option, and call it a day.

Honestly it all comes down to personal preference, and there is no real wrong answer here. Personally it being just the tach id let it be, but id see about refunding the portion paid for the other tach, or id explore the option of replacing the tach on Ferraris dime. But if they opted to refund the price (or removed if financing) of the tach option paid for I personally would just move on and enjoy the car. I dont think on a every day production Ferrari id make that big a wave over a minor issue but if it were a specialty car that were more rare, that might be a different story.

Id say make the decision thats right to you. If you just have that gut feeling you cant handle not having what you ordered or that its changed after the fact pass on the car and order a new one. As I said its a personal preference. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I think the reluctance is due to the difficulty of changing the tach. Ill bet you have to remove the windshield to remove the dash. And Ferrari typically orderes assembly's not individual parts so the dont usually offer individual parts. No matter what they should at least offer to swap the tach out or refund the cost of the tach option ordered at a minimum.

Echoing the above post to some extent it seems indicative that after nearly ten years of 458/488 there are no tacho color change threads (in contrast to most other models)

I called another dealer, spoke with the service manager and they told me the same thing, very expensive to swap out. Thanks for comments.

That is one of the frustrating issues, there is no upcharge to spec out Tach color, salesman just did not list on factory order I am guessing. Going to ask for factory order sheet tomorrow just to verify where error occurred. End of the day, I will love the car, these are 1%'er problems, not a big deal on the overall scheme of things.......

Maybe the individual gauge can be changed but not the face of the cluster - without changing the entire cluster.

Whole instrument cluster would need changed out as I have learned, very expensive..... I am sure I will love the car regardless, just disappointment for something you wait so long to get.

It shouldn't matter that it's an expensive car, you should get what you ordered.

The art of customer service is dead.

100%. It also shouldn't matter how difficult or expensive it is to change. If I was running the dealer, it would be done. Period.

Wow...you guys are pretty patient. I would have insisted on some sort of fix. I wouldn’t be an idiot about it (at least at first), but it should be fixed. I mean even a hot dog vendor would be humble and apologetic and replace your hot dog if it had catsup instead of mustard. Geeez.

Here's a simple question; are you planning on keeping this car forever, or will it get sold after a few years? If the answer is the latter, then really, is the tach color going to change your driving experience in it?

Seriously, people pay well over sticker to get used ones that were ordered by others entirely. Life is too short. Get the car and start enjoying it. The tach color will become so unimportant quickly.

Can't the dealer just swap it out for the correct one?
