Anyone know this car? It was my wife’s father’s car when he passed away in 1974. Last known location was the Chicago area where, according to Ferrari Market Letter, it was registered to a Robert Leibovitz, and before that a John Leach. It was imported as silver with tan but was later painted red. In 1996, Leibovitz offered it for sale with 41,000 mi. Trail went cold after that. Luv to find this car. Thanks.

Was 9759 a 365GT prototype? Because it seems really early, yet according to Raab (who is not infallible), it is a 365GT with a type 245 engine.

Maybe a 330 used as an engine test bed?

Any chance you have a picture?

I purchased that car on 1/9/1973 from a dealer in Palmyra ,NY It had 23,000 miles on it. I sold it to a DR S. Nesler from Niles Ill. I do not remember the date.

This was a 365GT 2+ 2 with a solid rear axle like a 330GT 2+2. I believe the car was the first one built and last I heard it was in the UK. I do not believe it had a 4 lit engine. The VIN stated a 4.4lit 365GT 9759. Back than we didnt look that close.

Well Raab does say it has a type 245 engine, which would be a 4.4 liter 2-cam motor, I believe.

Interesting that it's the prototype! Built a long time before the first production car, as well. I wonder if it was mainly used as an engine testbed?

Wow. Thanks for that nice note. My wife’s father was Dr. Sheldon Nesler. He died unexpectedly in Oct 1974 when she was 3 and his wife, who couldn’t drive a stick, had a relative sell it for her. I really want I buy it for her but I’m struggling to find the darn thing. If you have any additional information or folks I could contact, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Marcel, was it the prototype 365GT? It seems like it was built quite a long time before the production run started... but maybe that's normal?

    No it was not.
07499 was one of the prototypes.

    CORRECTION re my post #8:
    09759:
Assembly sequence #84 (not as indicated 384)

Marcel, do you have any idea of it’s whereabouts now? According to Ferrari Market Letter, Leibovitz offered it for sale in 1996 but after that its trail went cold. Luv to find that car! Thanks.

So it was the 84th? I don't have my copy of Raab handy, but weren't they still making 330GT 2+2s in that serial number range?

Is the info about it having a solid rear axle correct?

The white pages has one Robert D Leibovitz in Silvis Illinois who is in his 80s. I would give him a try and see if you get lucky? If the spelling is correct, Leibovitz is a fairly unusual name, there are only a couple listed in the USA. Any chance you own a 1965 Mustang?

    Cheers Jim

I've owned 09759 since 1983. It is the prototype, used on the stand at the 1968 Paris Auto Show. The car does have plexi head light covers, and the engine is stamped 09759. Before the car was shipped to Kuantz Motors in Illinois, the car was painted 7 different colors. The story I was told, "the car was resprayed by the factory every time the car was shown at a different venue. The car was built in 1967, has a 365 power unit stamped 09759, but was assembled with some 330 parts under the hood.

09759 was originally painted Argento Metallizzato with Beige VM 3218 Connolly leather.
09759 was NOT the 365 GT 2+2 at the 1968 Paris Motor Show. At the 1968 Paris Motor Show displayed were two 365 GT 2+2's and they were chassis #11797 (in the color Oro Nasrullah and #11799 (in the color Verde Scuro).

I have never understood the build sequence of this car. I know the numbering sequence of Ferrari chassis almost never exactly tracks the build sequence of a given model. But the build sequence number of 84 for this telaio number 09759 is WAY off; my old QM, 11199, was build sequence #26.
According to Raab, the QMs built right around the time of 09759 were:
    11467 - #82
    11471 - #77
    11473 - #79
    11477 - #80
    11479 - #87
    11481 - #83
    11485 - #86
    11487 - #85
So why would Ferrari reach way back to build the 84th QM on telaio 09759, when the others just before it and just after it were 11481 and 11487? Seems really odd to me. Ferrari built 40 330GTs after 09759, at least in terms of the telaio numbering.

Possibly has to do with when the Certificate of Origin(Certificato d'Origine) was created? The chassis number was assigned when the document was created but the car might not be built for months.

It's the live axle statement from "retired" in post 5 that has me doubting the accuracy of the 84th built. I just don't see Ferrari inserting a live axle build 84 cars deep in a run of IRS cars. My guess is that, for whatever reason, 09759 was fabricated as if it were going to be a 330GT but was pulled out of line and not sent to Pininfarina until much later and bodied as a QM. My understanding is that the engines were not installed until after the cars were bodied, so dumping in a tipo 245 would not have been an issue by the time it came back from Pininfarina. Just me surmising . . .
