Will be interested to hear what he says. I have a 488 but my dealer won't commit until he knows what his allocation will be.

I think he has plenty of potential buyers who also have 488's, and so buying history and Ferrari "points" will also probably come into play.

I am told (again by my dealer) that 488 ownership is really the only Ferrari "bar". The rest is up to the dealer to decide who gets cars. So yes allocations are important to the dealers so they can then determine which of their customers will get a car and by when.

Like yourself am assured they're the rules out here - 488 owners have ultimate priority! I've money down on one, so I guess I'll just wait and see if it was all just BS. I'll be pissed off if I find out I missed out and someone without a 488 gets one!

I doubt 488 ownership rule for GTO qualification is from the factory. More likely the dealer is trying to push out a few more of the slow selling 488. Two weeks ago my dealer took me to his storage area to look at a car. I was amazed at the number of 488s that were still sitting there with the delivery plastic bits still on them. I asked whether they were cars waiting to be delivered. He sheepishly said they are cars that have been ordered by clients chasing limited editions etc, and have been there in some cases for over a year. After some time, the dealer can sell the car as new to a new customer without the 6 month wait at a slight premium, which they couldn't have made when the first customer took delivery.

This "rule" absolutely suits the dealer, but sounds like BS to me.

Also, doesn't bode well for the used 488 market when all these stored cars hit the market.

No BS and confirmed multiple times. Also when u look at how many 488VS's will be sold I doubt it will have a major affect on the 488 market. We think everyone chases these cars but I believe we are a subset of the market. Anyway time will tell.

Good to know the dealer has some say in this because essentially you could get a scenario where buyers who bough a 488 with no prior buying history get favoured over collectors.

all this is either regional, or dealer rules or BS. i got close to ordering a 488GTB last week because i got worried by all those rumors about being possibly left out but my dealer told me to cool it and just order the VS when the books open in march. he said i may not be to first to get it but surely in spring 2019.

Might be the case in your geo but not in mine. Also I like the 488GTB so decided to get it anyway - no big deal

Enjoy. Funny when I read these comments about the 488 not selling. I waited patiently on a waiting list for a very long time. I also have two friends still waiting to order a GTB. Who can understand the motives behind these rumors that the 488 isn’t extremely successful.

Oh, I really doubt that LaFerrari owners, for example, won't get first dibs over 488 owners...

We've already been through this allocation saga a few pages back with the same excruciating hypotheses!

I can only relay my experience and in both countries I "play" same story. Maybe dealer initiated maybe not but again does it matter - no. Play or don't play - no-one is forcing one to do anything. So many choices today as well. Great time to be an enthusiast

Most likely wishful thinking from a certain group who take issue with 488 being a faster more advanced car - hard to say - but over here 488 is most certainly an order and lengthy wait. Pretty sure if any dealer this way had a paddock full of unsold 488's the wait-list would have disappeared a long while back and our money would be happily in their account accordingly.

The only 488's I've seen sit around a bit are used ones with few to no options but even they eventually sell over the course of a few months. Buyers at this level are fairly specific about what they want option wise and may not buy unless the car has what they want in it, or the price reflects an adequate enough saving for taking a car lesser spec'd car than what they would have ordered themselves.

The situation in the UK is quite different. According to the dealer, you can order a 488 today, and the wait is not much more than the actual building and shipping time. So, 4 months or so.

That may be true of a GTB but I don’t think it is true of a Spider. And I’m pretty sure the building and shipping time is much less than 4 months. Time from 10 red, when the build is locked, to completion is a couple of weeks at most, assuming no TM options. Shipping is about a week and there may be a week in between. Add a couple of days with the dealer and it is just over a month from 10 red at a guess.

actually, thinking about it, there may be a bit more of a gap between 10 red and start of production but not too much.

My 4 months was for a GTB with an Italian flag at the back which the dealer did say would slow things down a bit as it is extra-campanario. I can easily believe that Spider has more of a wait.

18 months ago, I was told the waiting time was nearly 9 months, at least in the UK has, it now seems a lot less.

The 488 gtb launched at Geneva in 2015. It would be very unusual to release a special after only 3 years of production. By comparison the gap between the 458 & Speciale was exactly 4 years with the Speciale and Aperta being produced for 18 months until the 488 was launched.

I would say September is a more likely launch for a special 488. What is the chance that the Geneva launch is actually the “Dino”? There were pics on Fchat of some 488 mules which had noticeably shorter wheelbases. Is the Dino project dead or not?

Good Q Craig .... only thing we know isthat there will be a new F shown at coming Geneva Motor Show in March ...

Would fit perfect if a small F would be shown there, in the frame of the fomer 3 series (355/360) :D.
