If ferrari is definitely showing something new at geneva, best bet would be a new version of existing model like 488gto. How could they keep something like new dino so secret for so long? An entirely new model, esp a high volume one, would probably require new factory space, patents, etc that's impossible to keep completely secret.

Well, I think they could ... but my best guess is 488 version.

I had a conversation with my UK dealer last week. He told me they had been debriefed by Ferrari NE that there will be no Dino, 488VS announcement in Feb with launch at Geneva, I’m on the list, and lastly they will build an SUV if customers demand it. Make of it what you will.

There are already patent drawings in circulation for their new platform - on which Portofino is built. Platform can handle mid and front engine plus potential for batteries - so yes, definitely possible.

FWIW I think near impossible that the car you’re referring to will be called GTO

Sorry, I meant I’m on the list for a 488VS, not for the announcement.

SUV is almost a certainty - when one looks at what Bentley and Lamborghini have done. Ferrari as a listed company now has different pressures.

The reason I am open-minded about a “Dino” is the “911 Turbo” segment has shown a lot of growth potential. And whilst the 488 special can generate significant margin enhancement - it doesn’t raise volumes significantly - not the way another model would.

I am just wishing time away so this thread can stop going round in circles.

488 'GTO' has been scheduled for Geneva for many months. Names are not decided until literally a week or so before. They will have options to select from but no final decision until much much closer. Dino has been dead for many many months.

Everything else is guesswork and I cannot wait for facts.

Agreed - looks like we will just have to wait for Geneva.

Am planning to visit on Friday 9th March.

    Well said sir!!!

Regarding the SUV, I am convinced it's a market ploy in order to keep investors on their toes. I don't think that there is ever going to be one.

Geneva is definitely confirmed (something else would be completely unexpected), regarding the time between regular and special versions the reference is rather the F430 / Scuderia than the 458 Italia /Speciale.
The F430 was the evolved 360 (just like the 488 is the evolved 458) and there were exactly 3 years between the F430 and the Scuderia (Paris - September 2004 to Frankfurt - September 2007); the evolved models always have shorter life cycles.

two facts (at least it would surprise me if it would come in a different way):

The 488SV should get the new Steeringwheel, Passanger Display, clima control (as Lusso or 812). Which would be a good thing.

Who has some other differences in mind regarding SatNav, Dashboard/Interior in general - between the new models and the 488GTB?

I don't think the interior will be too different to the 488GTB IMO. Speciale was not too different to the standard 458

I tend to agree with you about the Dino, pity that it seems the project is dead.

Ive been wondering about the steering wheel on the 488 GTO since the new one was released. I think they will "hopefully" keep the older steering wheel over the newer steering. Not a fan of the new steering wheel, older one looks so much nicer but thats just my taste.

It's a good thing actually. Ferrari is about top of the range supercars, not mere sportscars. That's Maserati, or even Alfa Romeo, territory.

Completely disagree. A Dino would have made a great addition to the range. I seem to remember at one stage the mid engine V8 Ferrari was similarly priced to a Porsche 911...alas not the case any longer.

I think Ferrari should do something different with the 488 VS, prior cars were about more power but few would argue 660 bhp isn't enough. Perhaps one route to go would be chase absolute acceleration and agility at the expense of absolute top speed. To be honest who cares whether a car does 205mph or 212 mph, how many of us will ever get an opportunity to do 200 mph?

According to some archive even a Dino 246 GT was already 12.6% more expensive than a contemporary Porsche 911S 2.2 (and the following 911S 2.4 was still less expensive than the Dino).

More power would still be appreciated, but I agree top speed could be reduced - the level currently reached is not really relevant indeed.
