I am considering trading in/selling my 2014 458 Spider, 3k miles, for a Scud...am I nuts? Let's hear thoughts, thanks guys! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had both....sold both and only really miss the Scud. The 458 Spider was brilliant, but the Scuds overall driving experience was brilliant-er. The only nod against the Scud is that the 430 is not a pretty car vs the 458. The 458 will go down as one of the most beautiful cars ever produced by any maker. I am on the distant lookout for a 458 Speciale.
3k miles? maybe you need to drive the 458 more to see if you really enjoy it. On the other hand if you plan to keep the mileage low then probably better to trade in for the scud since it will hold more value in time.
Do you have the carbon seats and led on the wheel? Those were features I found made the 458 more racy. I had a 09 scud and currently have a 458 spider I loved the scud and love the 458 spider now. I just feel the 458 spider is a better car and more modern looking. And the 458 spider better suits my needs. Plus it's convertible ... makes everything better!
I love both, but that’s not a swap I would make unless I was only interested in future value. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Personnally I would consider a 458 Italia. Unless you are looking for an investment rather than for a car, the reason for changing a 458 spider for a Scuderia would be that you want less of a GT car and more of a sports car, with the ability to occasionnally go on track. In this case the fact is that, in spite of not being the rawer version, the 458 Italia will be better than a Scuderia in all conditions.
I have sold my scuderia to go to a 458 spider. The 458 is better in any point except the way it makes you feel. I agree with saraojo, how can you sell a car after only 3000 miles? I put those miles in 2 months on my cars...I had 42K on my Scud when I traded for a 458. Otherwise buy a poster and rent a scuderia when you want to drive a real car.
What would you guys say if he was considering a 16M instead of a scud? 458 spider vs 430 16M? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tough call ... there is potential for the 16m to go up however it's an older car and more money. That might be a personal taste decision. Personally 458 Spider but I would love a 458 Speciale A
I have 458 Spider and a 16M. Without question the 16M is more exciting to drive. The 458 Spider is just easier to use regularly and a joy to drive on a sunny day. One is pure Ferrari rawness and quirkiness of old when you want a thrill, the other is amazing to use whenever and wherever you want without sweating miles.
The 16m is probably more dramatic than the 458 spider. Sometimes I feel that my 430 spider sounds and feels more raw than my 458. But all around the 458 is the newer and better car.
Both great cars. IMHO, 458 shines as an all rounder. If you want something that could do commuter duty--458 is great. At lower speeds you can almost forget you are in such a capable car. 16M is more of an "event car". It has that "magic" where its faults (vibration, transmission refinement, noise) are actually in fact its strengths and what makes it so special. It is a real experience even during a slow speed run to grab some ice cream. Every time you take it out of the garage you will know you are driving something quite special. A canyon run in a 16M with the top down is really an incredible visceral experience.
Agree 100%! 16M The most mundane of tasks, a trip to the local store for a bottle of wine after work, turns into a magic carpet ride from some far away fantasy. You turn the key listening to various beeps and tones. It barks and jumps to life. While warming the anachronistic canvas fabric top stows away artfully. You click into first and the car shudders. Each up shift screams and slams you in the small of your back. The cars vibrates at moderate speeds, and hums at stop lights. Every bit of road gravel sounds as though it is damaging something expensive; every road imperfection jars your backside and flanks. Downshifts pulling to a light alarms people in their fridgedaire appliance transportation devices. You grab your wine amidst admiring glances. Rinse, repeat...the way home. You decide you need to go out for cheese........
Thanks for the thread posts...makes me just feel like I need a bigger bank account so I can have both!
I think the 458 is so brilliant I am getting my 3rd next week...had a 458 Coupe, then Speciale and now Spider.
If driven purely by investment purposes, a special/limited edition car will perform better over time, hence Scuderia. For all the other gazillion reasons there are in life: 458. Sweet spot imho? 458 Speciale. Apart from being brilliant in every single way, I see it becoming a 7 digit car in terms of value anytime over one decade. Kind regards, Nuno.
Maybe I have taken your post too literally and if so apologies. Do you really think investment purposes are the only reason some people prefer the Scud experience vs the 458? And that all the real reasons point for to the 458? Both cars are great but your idea, and mine, of what is ideal in a driving experience is pretty subjective. As such for some the 458 is bliss while for others the Scud..and yet for others an air cooled 911. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Your point is obvious ... I believe Nuno was just stating his opinion of the two cars ... which is what the OP of this thread was asking for. Everyone enjoy your cars happy new year and happy motoring
Maybe my post was not so "obvious"after all. Underlying point is to push for a little more color on why someone may reasonably prefer fantastic car "A" over car "B". Otherwise it is basically just a poll which is a little useful for some bit not so much for people who prefer to know the reasons behind difficult decisions. Certainly, though, I think we can agree that it is 'obvious" that we should all get out and enjoy the cars in 2018! [emoji469] Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Hi Galt, sorry if I didn't make myself clear. English not being my mother tongue, it may sometimes prove be a hurdle. I am in complete agreement with you and what I was aiming for is exactly what Afonsolaw pointed out. Kind regards and happy new year, Nuno.
Its a brave desicion, but its not nuts. I have noticed that a scud doesn't get as much attention as a 458, especially from younger people, but if your looking for a better sounding, more hardcore, better looking, more solid car then go right ahead! The Scud has been made in less numbers than the 458, so over time you will notice that you are loosing less money than what you would have done if you had kept the 458, my advice, Do IT! but at the end of the day its all up to you, both amazing cars!!
