I noticed the far right of the screen on my OEM Becker is getting a blacken band top to bottom about an 1/8" wide. It does seem to come and go-- or at least get better and worse. Is this something you guys have seen too?
Is it going south? I know LCD screens have a life but seems a little premature maybe. Car has 22K miles on it.

Working in electronics, I have seen LCD screens that will work for years with one line, and I've seen them completely die and/or break. The car may only have 22k on it, but it's had 14-18 years of weather changes, days and nights, etc. that will take a toll on anything. It's a teenager, it will act up.:D

And the LCD "leaks" may stabilize or slowly spread. I've never noted rhyme or reason.
I would look for a replacement/spare on eBay or contact Becker Auto Sound for one.

I will fix it if it goes south completely. I really don't want to put an aftermarket one in. Not in this car at least. Probably will contact Becker. Fingers crossed it doesn't cost a timing belt replacement!:)

I just had my OEM Becker in my 2003 360 Spider die. Local repair shop works with Becker and did a transplant of my face onto new/old guts. Assume they could do the reverse as well. Becker has a licensed repair facility that uses their name in NJ.

Which one is it? I've seen on the later traffic pros that one side of the screen can go all black. You can try cleaning the contacts, and if its a traffic pro you can open it up and transplant the electronics and screen in the outer panel from a land rover unit or porsche unit. It will be a different color, but will work well.

Near as I can tell, it's a Becker model 6101. The car does have a Nav disc for the radio and the optional 10 CD player up front-- if that matters.

Funny thing is I had the car out and about yesterday and noticed the whole time the screen was fine (?)... Like I said, odd that it comes and goes. It was only in the 50's here in Florida all day yesterday so maybe the colder temps had something to do with it?

I've seen screens act funny in very cold temperatures....but I'm talking Canadian temperatures...not Florida temperatures ;)

Funny that it seemed to get better in the colder temps. Go figure, right?

Thanks for the lead on the repair facility... My OE Becker and the CD changer aren't playing nice with each other.

Before you send it off, try pulling the unit with the keys and the topmost connector... remove it and put it back in. That top connector is what mediates the CD changer in the frunk. If you can reseat the connector at the CD player in the frunk that might be a corroded or loose connector.

The funny thing is that after a road trip of 1000+ kilometers, when I got back I noticed that on the right side the LCD of the Ferrari Becker unit was going bad... In the beginning I was sad, but 1 day later the problem disappeared... I simply opened and closed the front panel a couple of times... No problem every since...

Great news. Probably the same for my unit. I have a changer in the frunk but I use the single load behind the face. I'm definitely going to try this out next time it happens by opening and closing the face. Like someone here said, probably a contact issue. Either humidity or just the usual dust and such.

Thanks... I'll reseat each side. Fingers crossed!

... If it doesn't work, I still don't know which component is not playing nice. I usually don't even listen to anything except the engine but it would be **nice** to have the CD changer working.
