I've seen all kinds of painting configurations on the old Maserati V8 heads over the years. AFAIK the heads were painted on the Boras and on mine at least for the practical reason that nakid the castings had so many crude casting irregularities that they didn't bother to correct by fixing the molds or being more careful so they covered it all up with a very heavy coat of wrinkle paint. Which is what I did as well. Mine was built at the tail end of V8 production so perhaps by then the molds were rough?

This looks great too. Mine would not though.

Obvious but, have you contacted MIE about the vinyl?

I am not familiar with the particular diamond pattern for the vinyl on the Bora, but if it is the same as that for the Ghibli spider hood cover, then Maieli in Italy have reproduced it.

    It looks like this:

Hope that is the right one.

Please post more pictures as you go BTW, bet the car will be spectacular!

    Cheers.

    Mark.

Their hood material looks close but might not be the right size? Worth getting a sample after some diamond dimensions are exchanged.

That looks wrong though. Thanks for the link to that source! They do have some things. :)

The Ghibli spyder material is unique to that car and not the same as the Bora. The Bora material is the same as the Merak and the Khamsin. I would still check with Maieli as he might have the correct material for your Bora. This is a close up of the Bora hood pad.

With potential uber restorations such as this one perhaps the Bora will at last get that deserved same appreciation as many other over restored to perfection marques?
I saw Wilson Werhan's green Bora in Monterey which I thought look pretty darned good.
I beleive that was a different and darker green?

No, probably not as the hydraulics will alway be misunderstood. What a shame that one of the best GT cars of its era will never get the full respect that it deserves. On the other hand, the Khamsin has been received well by those who know what a great GT it is so there may be hope for the Bora sometime in the future. In my estimation, in a fair market that really looks at what the Bora is, a price for a fully concours restored Bora should be $350,000 or a bit more but I don't see that happening no matter how many magazines articles praise the car compared to it's competition. Sad!

When I wrote about 200k Boras a few years back almost everybody scoffed!
Don't be sad. We WILL see 500k Boras in a decade.
The hydraulics concern is not what it used to be. At least in Europe it is a non-issue now.
    Regards.

You are basing that on the assumption that the collector car market will continue to rise. Rising interest rates (no more free money), projected 4% economic growth, slashing of business regulations etc. the collector car market peaked in 2014 and has been on a gentle downturn. Not everyone are enthusiast that love the cars, investors looking for a strong return drove the market. Enthusiasts that are drawn to cars of the Bora’s era are now approaching or in retirement phase with different priorities.

Ah ... your number was lot higher than that. In the USA at least they still struggle to reach $200K and sinking ... That said, they are also not examples that have received the sort of restoration that this beautiful green one seems to be getting probably for that very reason. Sigh ... Some people still refer to the Khamsin and Bora as French cars! Not that there's anything wrong with that! ;) :p

Yes, as the current owner of that Bora, I can tell you my car is "Pino Verde". Also a gorgeous color, in my opinion, just as the freshly painted car in this thread.

Congratulations on your purchase. You got a very nice car. Sometimes it's hard to be sure over the internet. Thanks.

Yes, very sorry to hear that. Last autumn, his wife Lizbeth sent me the history file on the car, which was missing when I bought it. She mentioned to me that he was very ill. I never met him, but still, sorry to hear he passed away.
