Interesting layouts available, looks like there's a bit of elevation change going on, but hard to tell from the photos. Bit of an interesting location for a track I must say, hope it does well though, just worry about it attracting crowds (but people far smarter than me would have considered that I'm sure).
FO I don't need an ILS because I will be drinking looking at the cars especially if this heatwave keeps going here in Sydney........Plus the fact ILS are overrated.....Just put the strip of bitumen in the middle of the windscreen and keep it there......
Nup. It’s all sealed now. There’s a video that was in the media a week or so ago of the first lap around it.
A proper ILS still has all the same ground based systems they’ve always had. Nothing has changed there (as far as I’m aware). However latest gen avionics with synthetic vision and a good autopilot mean you can set up and fly a virtual ILS to any runway anywhere. (It’s more like an RNAV really). If I’m going to some iffy outback strip in the middle of the night with no facilities at all and flares for lights I can still set it up to fly an RNAV style approach and the aircraft will fly it so accurately it would put me on the numbers every time. In fact in a worst case scenario with an engine failure in the middle of the night with no moon I’m confident I could put it down safely on a strip with no lights - something that would have been impossible ten years ago. But of course it is not really the same as a proper ILS with all its cross-checks, backups and fail safes.
Are you going to attend the Nationally Rally this year ? It’s in your home town and you’ll be able to drive on the circuit. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Ansett use to have their Fokker Friendship come out to Amberley to use our ILS. Was embarrassing for them one day when a Fokker had it's landing gear snag the DEFAB drum the F111s use for their arrestor hook emergency landings ............. broke the landing gear and had to be removed with a low loader Just found this reference , post 320 https://www.pprune.org/pacific-general-aviation-questions/427204-ansett-fokker-friendship-16.html
Basically John.......Now RNAV based on GPS with no ground facilities.....All based on RNP compliance now......Makes the Carnasie Approach into JFK a piece of cake now in a heavy jet after 16 hours......
Thanks for the update Gary but after your teaching method with WES the other day your credibility is being taxed BTW , RU flying for CP ?
Yes .........and WTF are you talking about......It was straight enough to cast a line from the right hand window........
I’m hoping to attend, for sure. Someone’s going to have to post a 355 time, given Moretti won’t have a licence...
