I compiled this checklist identifying the known weak design items on 360 and F430 based on my own personal experience on both models and reading threads here in hoping that it can help some members in the market for these cars.

Other than the usual PPI generic checklist (air conditioning, lights, etc.) I have added some important items that should be checked and addressed prior to buying the car.

    Additional important notes:
Every Ferrari dealer charges differently for a PPI. It range from $550.00 to $1,100.00.

I highly recommend you take the car to a Ferrari dealer as they are most familiar with these cars. If you take it to an Indi mechanic just make sure they are well established and are very familiar with 360 and F430.

Please see attached and hope this helps some of you.

Other experienced members please feel free to add.

    Dan

Great list. I wish I had known some of these items prior to my purchase. I was missing car cover, tool kit, and flashlight, but did not think to ask.

+1 on established mechanic on indie shop. My PPI was sub par as I later learned the hard way.

I was a bit skeptical when I read your post. These things so often turn into some witch-hunt for the smallest possible imperfection. Your list is reasonable and common sense.

Thanks everyone. Glad you found the checklist useful.

And yes, I agree with Bob, we should add to pull fault codes and address those issues prior to purchase.

I'm here with my wife in Hawaii for vacation, (got tired of Seattle rain). I will update the checklist file when I get home next week and then upload it here again.

All the best to all of you always.

I would also add running the VIN to find any open or expired campaigns, and specifically inspecting motor mount brackets for cracking.

Great suggestion. How does one determine what campaigns have been done to the car?

Item number 25 on my checklist calls out to check for engine/motor mounts.

    Thanks!

The dealer will be able to tell you if there are any open campaigns on any given VIN. Recalls you can find on the government website but there are VERY FEW for these cars. NOTE: they likely will not have the information for euro cars.

Thanks for the info. I will ask my dealer if my car is up to date on all campaigns.

Here you go, PPI checklist updated incorporating everyone's inputs.

Hope this helps others in the market for one, or current owners seeking info on what else to check on their cars to keep it in tip top shape.

    Thanks!

    Dan,

That list will prevent a new owner early ownership disappointment...
Someone mentioned CEL...during my detailed inspection the CEL illuminated during the R/T...
Interesting enough the vehicle was just looked at by a local Indy shop who simply cleared the code.....
Most system hard faults within the ECM post a pending code or illuminate the CEL light after the third key cycle / drive cycle..
In my case this repair would have been a $1500.00 surprise...
New owner get a 30-60 day warranty or spend quality time testing the vehicle..!
    Then enjoy this outstanding machine..!

Ask if F1 pump (and relay) has been replaced with 2005 models, they are prone to fail.
They used the same F1 pump from the 360 in 2005 F430 models.
While the F1 pump is only used for the gearbox in the 360, in the F430 it is also used for the diff pressure.
2006 and later have a different F1 pump that is for havier use and has better cooling.

    Hi Dan,

Sorry to just chime in from The Netherlands / Europe.

Normally I am on the 458/488 section.

An official Ferrari document with name PPI consists of 199 points. Are you aware of that ?

It is made bij any off dealer and the doc also goes to the Factory.

I have one full PPI doc of a Scuderia but the owners name and vin are (still) on it so I cannot publish it here bluntly.

PM me if interested in more information :)

Thanks for this info, literally agreed to purchase a black 430 Spider yesterday, subject to various checks, and have just emailed your list to the dealer who's very happy with it. Cheers and good luck with your beauty!
