    Hello all,
I’m new to forum and support and admire all who post helpful info! I’ve recently bought an f355 f1 and have really enjoyed the car, but I’ve got a couple of questions? Driving the car recently it was performing great until it “hung up” in the 4 th gear, I limped it into a parking lot and is locked in gear. Of course I tried getting back into N but no luck? Towed back to my shop charged battery and pump is running fine, it was low on fluid, how do I get the car back to N so it will start? Is there a manual solution to resetting without dealership? I’m in Spartanburg SC which is tough to get to scanner unless there is somebody around me that can help? I’m a master PDR tech and would love to trade some knowledge and forward all endeavors for those that follow! Thanks TJ

A F1 clutch release tool is what you are looking for. Dave Rocks here on Fchat has one and was looking to replicate. Looks like a small hydraulic cylinder with a mating fitting on one end, and a threaded bolt to compress the piston within on the other end. If you search the forum you'll find a photo on a thread Dave started discussing some factory tools he acquired. See here:

    John - thank you.

Let's see if we can help TJ diagnose.

TJ - be careful on fluid level. I don't recall off hand but I think it needs to be checked a particular way.

What happens when you let the pump prime and then pull both paddles to select "N" ?

You may call me tomorrow afternoon if you like and I will try to help.

You need to look underneath the car at the actuator and see if it is binding. Could be a lot of things causing it to jam.
Many times but not always its mechanical.
Jack up car at the proper jacking points and see if it is hitting the crossbar.

Hi TJ and welcome! I'm not an f1 expert, but while you wait for one to chime in, you might want to bring the fluid up to proper level and bleed the system. Clutch actuation is a primary function of the fluids. You'll find instructions with a quick search of this forum. Good luck!

Yes you can. I've done it many times when replacing throwout bearings.
I'm talking about bleeding the clutch actuation. Gear selection is another thing altogether.

    See my edit.
I'm betting the clutch would stop working first. Gear change may not need the bleed.

Fair enough. Tell us about bleeding the clutch? I think I know but don't want to speculate

Every time I do one, I search here for the procedure. It works.

Dave over at fast cars they bled it without their sd. I cannot tell you the procedure because I did not really understand it. I think all they did was activate power to the F1 system just like turning on the key amd as it kicked in the pressurise the system they cracked the bleed screw on bottomof clutch.

    I am speculating of course.

Also the systems run below the full mark otherwise they will overflow. Its in here somewhere how much to fill.

That being said did you check the mechanicals?

I'm Sure you can bleed the clutch by just doing gear changes with the paddles. But if that does the job as good as the Sd, I don't know.

I don't know if it does it perfectly every time, but I have had it checked with sd once and it was perfect.
I've done the same with the self-learn function on 355 and early 360 when changing clutches, same result.
Don't get me wrong. If I had Dave's money, I'd have an sd too. Immediately! Color me green. But with envy, not cash!:D

Hey guys, so I replaced relay behind drivers seat as I was told many times and I replaced two fuses in kick panel also. I also unplugged and clean every electrical connection I could get to within reason, even behind seats. I would bet to say relay was main culprit of failure due to age, condition and a rattle inside relay? I've driven the car for an hour a couple of times and seems to be working great, slight traffic and slower speeds and I think I'm good for a bit! Thanks again all who commented on my problem, $26 fix with a replacement relay by tyco, it's a universal BMW relay that is used numerous models if you wan to cheat $ Tj

Can you say exactly what relay it was and which BMW part no.?

Could be one of those “replace anyway” items if it’s that cheap and easy.

If you do a search you should find the one that fails open so not to burn out f1 motor.

Also to the OP youneed to check your motor mounts!!
To many new F1 pwners do not and it costs them a lot more money.
