Hello all, Can't believe there is no such thread one day before the first auction. Retromobile with 100000 plus visitors is the Monterey of Europe with three auctions, the only event of the year in Europe that has as many so here is the ball rolling, though I don't intend to be much more than a reader here. So Timmy and all: please work your magic https://www.artcurial.com/fr/vente-3279-retromobile-2018-artcurial-motorcars http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24882/ https://rmsothebys.com/en/home/lots/PA18 Each catalog biography has the English text under the French one. Best regards, Marc
Well Marc, because of Tim we are all too lazy to start a new thread as we can't compete with his thorough approach.... There are quite some interesting and important cars on the block at the auction houses and the Retromibile has another huge amount of cars for sale. A preview of this fair is highly appreciated! So if anybody is going West, let us know and show some pictures with asking prices. Among many here I was invited for the RM auction but too much work to go to Paris, I will however follow the auction with a live-stream. Some interesting cars (the alloy 275 and the 550 Barchetta) have my attention.... ciao Oscar
Hello Oscar, Personally I would want the Iso/Bizzarrini ex Johnny Halliday (not that I care about who owned it) and the Bizzarrini 1900GT Europa, I drove that exact car for an article in Classic & Sportscar in 2011 (though only the other one I drove got shown in photos) and it is a jewel, one of the finest things I have driven, the contrary of a 375MM, each extraordinary but at opposite ends of the handling spectrum. The doors keep opening though, literally, an endemic problem apparently but hey that is free aeration;-) Not involved in its sale at all. I may be un-lazy enough to post here if time allows Best regards, Marc
Sorry guys, it slipped my mind but I will do every Ferrari AND if anyone wants information on the rest (and much, much more) please check out my site www.autoauctionsmonthly.com (ITS FREE!). My fave is actually the Hispano-Suiza powerboat OR the Minerva's or the 1904 Fiat or the, you get the picture.... Now we're talking thanks Timmy. I just got back from the media evening at Retromobile a dizzying array of cars Lukas Huni had half a dozen SWB's on display, quantity and quality. A gorgeous silver TDF, there were several stands with Cal spyders, one lesser stand had a BB512 in oro chiaro, gorgeous. Lots and lots of 275's and Daytonas by the sixpack. I spoke to one of the Bardinon sons, Jean Francois CEO of Chapal the family leather company and asked why 0816 the Le Mans winner was pulled from the Artcurial auction and he said that the tax department pressure on the family was less than they expected at the moment so they could get away with not selling it, so are keeping it in the family for now. He has no idea if it will be offered at some point n the future. Of course I have no idea if he decides, his brother Patrick decides or their sister or all together with the lawyers, private matters. A big surprise was Ferrari of Beverly Hills stand with the alloy Daytona street berlinetta found in Japan complete with its dust, had a nice chat with Mattioli head of that dealership. Barely saw half of it too -and none of the three auctions displays- busy meeting people but three more days to come Good night from Paris under the snow and traffic chaos. MS
The few pictures of that stand with all the SWB's made me weak in the knees. I wish I were there, snow and all!
Artcurial Fascinating stuff and thanks for the post. Look forward to some pictures...... If anyone has them.
I can't post photos of the event as I am doing an article for Ferrari Market Letter but the auctions yes I will post some tonight. Snow is 2 inches on the ground, lived here 10 years 77-86 never saw that, very pretty but the folks in the 700 kilometers of traffic jams would not agree Don't come by car, hopeless, fly in or or use the train. Trucks are banned from the roads. Right got to go have a good day. MS
Leave the Ferrari at home then lol, I love trains so would be happy with that. I am throwing the photo net pretty wide but any auction photos would be great.
Look at the tops of the air filters on the BB512 at RM???? Classiche Certified as well. https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/PA18/Paris/lots/r0011-1981-ferrari-512-bb/565529 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Followed it a bit and is not exactly going swift.....some cars sold fine, but the 275 alloy (with the wrong dashboard btw...) high bid 2.2.....NS Ciao Oscar
Nice! Did he modify the dash? It is in the style of the 275 GTB/4....I really like the bare wood (quite a lot owners have modified the dash with lacquer) and mine is still like new. How long ago did he sell the car? Ciao Oscar
We sold the car at RM Monterey in 2014. Interior was 100% original at the time - wood dash, gray carpets, red floor mats. It was in exceptionally good condition as well so i was a bit disappointed to learn that they had removed all of it during restoration.
They also replaced the correct Scaglietti hood bumpers with incorrect ones. When ever I see this simple detail I know the people in charge were not on top of things. They also ruined that nice patina on the steering wheel and buffed out all the detail.
The 250 GTE sold for 516,875 euro ($633K) which was far above high estimate - perhaps one of the few lots to do so.
Just watched a bunch of the Artcurial live. Bidding seemed pretty weak to me. And they don't seem very professional between the three guys up there and whoever was running the current bid display constantly messing it the current bid.
