what an article the new mclaren is called a hyper car for super car price! Great article if some one can post it! Gtjoey
Only reason it didn't trap way higher in the quarter mile is the terrible gas that's available in Cali. Road and Track ran the car in Kentucky (I think) where 93 octane is available. you see the difference it makes in this car. 141.5 vs 148.1 mph in the quarter mile. That's HUGE! Motortrend corrected this for the actual laps. I doubt they did so for the drag strip, however. We've seen real world 720S's trapping 147-148 mph in the quarter mile in 9.7-9.8 seconds.
Imagine what the car would have done with proper Trofeo R or Michelin PSC2 tires instead of the road biased tires that are standard.
I think we are going to find out REAL SOON as Leno will have a complete review on his show very soon. I think most will be very surprised , stay tune! GTJOEY1314
Road and Track vs Motor Trend times:- 0-60 MPH: 2.7 seconds / 2.5s 0-100 MPH: 5.1 seconds / 5.3s ¼ Mile: 9.9 seconds @ 148.2 MPH / 10.1 seconds @ 141.5 MPH
I’m sure that’s what it is. Combined with Road and Track really wringing the best out of the car. What a rocket ship though. I can’t wait for the LT. What will it run, 9.4?
The Senna is the 1183 kg and the 720S is 1283kg so I'd expect the LT to come in between, around 1233 kg, which is about the same as the 675LT. Because the 720S is lighter than the 650S, expect less relative weight reduction between the 720S and LT model than between the 650S and 675LT. Horsepower is 789 for the Senna and 710 for the 720S. So 750 hp is probably a good guess for the future LT. For the 720S, dynos consistently give wheel hp figures that are about 97-98% of rated power, so McLaren sandbags their specifications. Basic tunes on the 720S are now available, getting around 766 hp on 93 octane pump gas. With 50 kg less and 40 hp more, I'd expect a minimal improvement in 1/4 mile time ~ 0.1 sec. The best time I've seen for a stock 720S is 9.8 sec so maybe the LT will probably be capable of 9.7 sec. Aero on the LT will be optimized for downforce, which means more drag, so it may not outperform the 720S in max speed or 1/2 mi dragrace trap time. The 720S is already incredibly capable on the track, so the LT should be simply phenomenal. It may not be beautiful but the Senna will likely demolish all other roadable cars in terms of track performance. Overall though, expect a much larger difference in behavior than performance - LT will get the harsher ride, louder exhaust, and most aggressive tires. I'd expect these to be priced well into the $400k range, right up there with the Ford GT and Aventador S, and probably the real world price of the GT2-RS.
Image Unavailable, Please Login As I've said before, I understand the next best thing but if you own or driven one of these it's getting crazy. We are doing 0 to 60 in 2. Something seconds I took my 1952 db2 for a ride around the block all 110 hp with the s motor! On a public road how much more could you want! 0 to 100 in 3 seconds? That's why the 720s has a great appeal The interior and fit and finish make it a. Wonderful Driving car!
Glad I'm not the only one Totally love this red one that was auctioned off recently: https://www.motor1.com/news/228984/unique-mclaren-720s-charity-auction/
