I have them somewhere. On the 904, it was like a plastic version of the RS61 and 718, nothing new. That's why I find it strange that is the basis for the Corvette hoop. Plus the 1968 Corvettes look an awful lot like a 64 Ferrari GTO in profile.

The ‘68 Corvette was done @ ‘64-‘65 so the Ferrari GTO influence was a distinct possibility

Hank Haga ran the Studio that refined design ideas for production. One of the first things he did was change the 'boat-tail' roof to a more pleasing vertical window borrowed from the Porsche 904. The glass window was sandwiched between two parallel C-pillars a layout that recreated the tunneled window style used on the XP-819. With the removable rear window and the targa top roof treatment there was not enough structural rigidity for the platform. This problem along with other problems with the body design forced a one year delay. The solution was a metal bar to join the top of the windshield with the targa top. With this solution the Corvette 't-top' roof was born.

Well you learn something everyday. Interesting and good result. I always loved the C3 Corvettes.

I do think that there is a story of GM Design having a Porsche 904 for a while. GM Design bought lots of different cars at various times.

We have one of those Banshee's near me. Joe Bortz owns the white convertible prototype. Very cool looking in person. To bad they didn't produce it.

Some thought of the Corvair Monza GT and SS models as a mini - Corvette threat. Ironically featuring flat 6 motors behind the rear axle...

The red Corvair Monza SS spyder later featured a 'targa' rollbar. This design looked much like the targa roof the 1968 Corvette would feature as well. Especially as the 1968 Corvette was envisioned as having a full 'targa' top design for the coupe.

I'll never forgive GM for blowing the 50th anniversary of the Corvette. It really would not have taken much imagination. Just do a resto mod similar to the original car.

Funny thing is I actually like the 2013 anniversary car and may buy one. But still, how freakin brain dead do you have to be to miss out on this opportunity?

Ah, on second thought, don't answer that question.

    How about the designer credits?
How serious was this for production? If so, who killed it?

Numerous mid engined Cadillac proposals over the years
Couldn’t develop a meaningful/profitable business case.........maybe now it will make sense with a midengined a Corvette
