Guys, the analogy is somehow valid, I don’t think the salesman was comparing a 360 with a 996 but saying it is the under appreciated model, I don’t think the 996 will appreciate in value (maybe some will do like turbos, GT3 etc) but it is a LOT of a car for the money. What 20k-30k gets you nowadays??
Same with the 360, maybe it will not appreciate but it is the cheapest exotic car around, and you can actually use it everyday if you want to.

Heh, the money I was intentionally saving by opting for a cheap-o 996 in 2011 was going towards buying a house in Silicon Valley, at what turned out to be the market bottom.

So, more through dumb luck than foresight, things worked out just fine. And it's been nice to have a car that I can wring out without worrying about resale value, etc. It complements the 360 nicely.

Yup. They were already quite cheap back in '11, and they seem to have bottomed out a year or two ago when they started getting good press again. Now holding steady or even ever-so-slightly increasing in value?

Can't imagine it ever being an investment car though, there are just far too many of them.

To me, its quite simple. I've owned Porches since 1980 and still does today.
Technically, both cars are quite capable of putting a smile on your face or getting you a ride in the back seat of a police cruiser.

    However,
on a sunny Friday afternoon or Sat/Sun morning drive with the top down with the wifey riding shotgun I get thumbs up all the time with the 360.
I park it in front of a restaurant and folks pose and take pics next to it.
Some ask to sit inside. I usually oblige. NEVER in my Porsche TT. A few times with my 928 Koenig (just because its different or they've never seen one before).

    My $0.02

I used to really bag on the fried egg lights of the 996 porsche. Over time though it has grown on me to the point where I could have one and have no issue at all. I think it is the large size of the 360 light cluster that made it more acceptable to me. I would have to do a lot of research about these engine issues that folks are claiming though. That would be a bummer!

For me the 996 and 348 are more alike. Just personal opinion but the side strakes on the 348 ruin it for me much like the interior of the 996 ruins it. The 360 has no such issues.

...Yeah I was called a knucklehead for buying B of A shares at $5. Haha.

The 360 is a great car for what it is. 2x with thumbs ups, attention, and passive attention it gets. But I hooked a gold digger and dropped her like a hot rock.

The prancing horse shields speak volumes without saying a word. The 996 is a decent car.... but it's soooo pedestrian.

The "fried egg" headlights gave me a different perspective when I saw them on the GT1

I had a 996 before my 360. I loved that car! I miss it to this day. If I could afford another car, that would be it.

I'm quite happy with both my 360 and 996 GT3.
that said, there are very few other 996 variants I would consider buying.
    and
the 360 is certainly not in the same category.

Here's my $16k 996, taken off I5 on the way to a two-day HPDE at Streets of Willow.

If I recall correctly, I had pulled over because the interior design was so nauseating I had to puke.

360 is the best looking Ferrari in my opinion but then again I grew up with the bubble headlights of mass, Ferrari, and corrvett

That is utterly disgusting!!! Why don’t you use those 16k and get a real car like a Honda Fit!! And if you are planning on keeping it please take those hideous wheels and put a nice set of 13 inch plug rims!!

Yep, and to be fair the 996 is a 4S l and looks mint and the 360 looks like it needs a lot of work and probably hasn't got an awful lot of history. The 996 is being sold by a well known dealer and the 360 appears to be being sold in a multi-storey car park! ;)

You can't compare the UK and US markets. Completely different. Even above LHD Ferrari versus RHD Porsche. Not even a comparison. RHD Ferrari would be equally worthless here in an LHD country. My Euro import 360 is a LHD here in the states. Not sure if you could even import a RHD 360 at the time..

Besides my 360 Spider, my wife and I own two Porsche's: a Boxster S and a Macan S. Not all Porsche salesmen are intelligent. ;)
