I have changed batteries on my previous F360 and F430 without any issues. The owners manual for the 458 states for battery replacement contact a dealer. Are there any issue if you follow the relearn procedure? or is there some coding to be done to the ecu. Has anyone done it themselves? What AGM battery is preferred ? Dermot
One of the online suppliers such as Tayna has cross reference data usually and check out other battery threads in this section for others who have replaced themselves
The next battery for my 458 is going to be the Interstate MT7 48/H6. I suspect the relearn procedure would work fine - but I may temporarily wire another battery in parallel before disconnecting the battery that is in the car now. That way there would be no interruption of voltage to the car.
I like that idea. On the other hand, a cold restart might have its benefits if any of the ECUs have been acting up.
Get this one and save some weight (have it in my Italia and love it!!!) https://www.braillebattery.com/index.php/braille/product_batteries/i48cx
I wish Ferrari would step up and offer a lithium ion battery for replacement. Other manufacturers, e.g., Porsche, McLaren, do. Braille is an excellent option but the factory battery tender made by Ctek will not work properly; so tweaking is needed. For AGM options, other than the obvious Interstate, which some Ferrari dealers offer as replacements, World Source One has the exact replacement AGM battery for the 458. I put one in 4 months ago per my dealer's recommendation and it works well. My Ferrari tender works as before. World Source One is made in the U.S.A. or in Germany, depending on the model. Interstate is made in China. If that matters to you. It does to me!
That sure matters to me too... but I found this information. Interstate Battery | US Made in America Products & Company Listing Directory Just checked the Interstate battery in my truck and it has a "made in Mexico" sticker on it. Battery was purchased in Texas, which would be consistent with the information in the link.
Please don't misunderstand...China's manufacturing capabilities could be quite sophisticated. Management, marketing, and corporate responsibility (safety being one!) are different matters. I have owned a business and have worked in China for 5 years and witnessed first hand the underbelly of Chinese companies and their philosophies. It's all about the people - some of whom are down right scary! I just don't trust a product that goes into my Ferrari with such a 'mysterious' way of disclosing where it is made. I looked at Interstate but never saw any 'Made in the USA' labels. That does not mean they are not good either. If it is just for a flashlight, it's fine; a $300K Ferrari, definitely not!
I replaced my battery with Ferrari OEM part. These cars are VERY Sensitive to aging batteries (transmission shift issues, odd errors, etc.) I there was zero relearning. Even the clock came up with right time after having battery out for approximately 1 hour. Must have a small on board battery on the electronic circuit boards (i.e. like a PC).
The off 458 battery is called Odyssey ... The F version has an F extra printed on the outside ( ....20F) but also costs a lot more ... take here the "normal"one ... Braille cf ltw battery i48cx, saves 35 lbs and is lithium ion, had it in my Italia over 6 months and imho works much better than standard best Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are we kidding Carlo ? Is this price correct ? MSRP $1732.49 I can renew one brand new battery every half year for that money ....
I use a CTEK Lithium battery tender and had to purchase an adaptor for the Ferrari charging outlet plug on eBay Setup works great!
Hi SV, here are links to the CTEK charger I use and the adaptor that plugs into the battery socket, could not be happier with the setup (and with saving 1% of the car's weight ) CTEK LITHIUM US - CTEK Battery ChargersCTEK Battery Chargers Ferrari to Ctek Battery Charger Adapter Cable 430 360 California 458 599 F12 | eBay
I just replaced the battery in my 2010 458. Any AGM-type battery with at least 760 CCA, and size H6 (group 48) will do. These are available at a lot of places! $160 - $250. Follow the procedure in you owner’s manual and you’ll be fine. Takes an hour, tops.
just wanted to share, I recently picked up duralast AGM ultimate with 3 year replacement locally for $180 from autozone, and turns out the battery is made in Germany and seems to run ok
Antigravity RS-30 Li-ion (11.5 lbs. and has built-in circuitry to make sure it keeps a reserve to start car) https://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/products/starter-batteries/automotive/rs-30/ and Optimate Li-ion charger. https://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/products/accessories/battery/chargers/optimate-tm-471-maintainer/ To be clear, I haven't bought these yet, but am considering first for my Porsche. Part of that is because my P-car battery is older, and the mounting spot is high up on the cowl, just under the bottom edge of the windshield, so will gain more benefit of lower weight. 458 placement makes more sense low in car under passenger footwell.
