So why haven't Ferrari never made a road car that can go way over 220 mph in their offical figures?

The closest car that is near that top is the Laferrari which is offical by Ferrari at over 217 mph which is over the Enzo's top speed. Videos have shown stock Enzos go over that 355 km/h figure and touching over 360 kph. Now I understand Ferrari is not for playing the speed game, but it seems confusing that the company hasn't offical claimed much higher top speeds than that. They could easily put offical separate gear ratios that could let the car be tailored for top speed or for acceleraltion.

Of all the numbers that they could chase, top speed would be the way down the list for Ferrari which is much more about handling/driving experience etc. Leave it to hennessey etc. Secondly, there's tyres that need to be rated for higher speeds which is a trade off with handling, grip, longevity safety etc. Glad they stopped chasing top speed long ago, with the F40 being the last one where they made a point about it.

First of all, the Enzo and the LF can do more than 220 in reality; after all Ferrari says more the 217 (350 kph). Secondly, it's not that important as these speeds are huge anyway. No major supercar manufacturer chaises top speed anymore.

The answer is very simple, in order to have the car safely travel at top speed of over 220mph, a lot of things needs to happen with the tire. Look at the Veyron/Chiron, special Michelin needs to be made to chase top speed and it is very costly to produce these special tires. Also, when you have a tire that can last at over 220mph top speed, you sacrifice outright grip and handling.

The Veyron needed those tyres because it was a pig. Tyre technology has moved on though and the new Michelins of the Chiron are not that tricky. The Koenigseggs and the Venom don't have trick tyres either. But yes, chasing top speed does compromise many other aspects of a supercar.

Because it is pointless and meaningless, that is why. It's a bragging right only, that does not matter to the actual end user. So very few will ever take a car to those speeds.

A car that can do 220mph would be more fun if it's geared to 200mph. will feel so much more quicker.

There's plenty of places to go unlimited speeds, and its quite exhilarating. Granted few will do it though.

the winner of any F1 race is not always the car with the highest trap speed.
highest top speed is a little like making the tallest building - it used to mean much more than it does today.

Safe High speed tracks are property of VW group. So no real way of claiming top speed today.

They could cordon off a motorway, just as Koeniggseg did in the US, but Ferrari doesn't really care about top speed bragging rights.

That's insane. I read up on it and how a simple valve stem in the tire could cause serious issues at those speeds. The engineering involved in making a car go that fast "safely" is staggring..

I've seen stock Enzos over 217, I've seen F12s over or right at 217 and I've seen some 599s get very close. The LaFerrari can do way over that on a straight road.

Ferrari low balls these figures because getting into the top end speed game defeats selling the "drivers experience". They don't want to get into the speed contests with Buggatti and others. Those car companies ALMOST HAVE have something to warrant selling a car for 500k to million dollars. Other manufactures simply don't have the Ferrari history or mystique to sell, so they have to have something. Some it's speed, others like Lamborghini is over the top out of this world styling.

Unless they are going to make a run for the top of the mountain there is no point in it. Touting a top speed of 237 is still short of the 253 of the Veyron from 13 years ago.
