I really dont have an opinion on that as I am no engine expert. I do know that Pennzoil does not foam so its easier to get an oil quantity reading. Will Pennzoil offer as good engine protection as Shell Helix - I really dont know....... I do know I drive my car very hard (once fully warmed up), I shift 90% at redlines and I like to drive at high RPM as this is where the Ferrari engines just loves to sing and that's why my car burns a good amount of oil. Strange guys, my 360 uses no oil between annual changes at all. I also don't have any foaming issues whatsoever and easily check the level on the dipstick. I use redline 5w/40 with a dab of lucas oil stabilizer... ps...probably 3-4000 miles a year and yes.....I drive it like I stole it!
Each engine is different. And if you dont use Shell Helix oil then that's the most likely reason your oil doesnt foam. Keep driving it like you stole it! Dan
All engines foam to a point, this is why the sump has such a large capacity. It gives the oil time to go back to the sump and give up any entraped air. If you had say only 50% of your present sump level then the oil would go around the circuit more often and have air in it. Big indurstrial diesels have dry sump tanks holding hundred or throusands of ltrs. Refered to as residence time- the time it has to give up its air before the next circuit
Pennzoil Platinum euro 5w-40 does foam, there is a Platinum ULTRA (As Helix)platinum for “extreme performance” but is not an euro version and it is not available in 5W-40 I am considering switching to a higher viscosity oil this year (10w-60 as indicated on the workshop manual), I do not need really cold protection (I live in San Diego) and do a lot of spirited drives in very hot weather. I believe the 5W-40 gets to thin when the weather is very hot and stuck in traffic or idling than the oil pressure gauge gets to low (and the light comes on) Any 10W-60 recommendations??
