If you’re a true fan of F1 and have followed it since at least 2007, you would know Elton’s antics in/around the track, more than enough to dislike/hate him. I don’t know what he does away from the track nor do I care.

For me, all this anti-Hamilton stuff is silly. He gets the job done on the track. He has the titles to prove it. I'm not a fan of his ear rings but I can find something to dislike about almost everybody in the world if I work at it. With a new season upon us, certainly there are things more interesting to do than trash Hamilton.

Don´t fool yourself: the Mercedes was the better car.... Ferrari was winning when Mercedes was not able to get the best out of the car as they did not understand the setup calling it a "diva". Obviously Lewis was not a big help in that as for some reasons at the beginning of the season most of the time Bottas was better than him when the car was not the best suited for the track. As soon as Mercedes sorted the car (see Silverstone) it was the best and Lewis was able to shine. At that point both Ferrari and Vettel had to take much more risk just to stay in business...They could have played it safe and they would have come home second as well. Mercedes and Lewis never had to risk that much and therefore it was much easier for them. Exchange Vettel and Lewis and I am sure the Mercedes would have won as well... It is much more the car these days than the drivers! I think the difference between the top drivers is marginal to nothing
I am rarely surprised when someone reads the title of this thread, thinks ‘wow, obviously not a thread that’ll be positive about elton, I’ll go in and try to change their minds’, and then is flummoxed when their positive spin on elton is rebuffed by the other contributors. I’m more surprised that anyone could try to make out that any of what we’ve said here is ‘racist’ in any way. If it’s racist not to like an f1 driver, I guess we are all terrible xenophobes because we are negative about half the grid for various reasons! Who knew? And me, I must be worst of the lot, cos I’m English, the same as elton, so I even hate myself!
Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel where all hated by many (not exclusively Ferrari fans). Max is not well liked here. In sports, people need a villain. Lewis gives lots of ammo. To many, he's a hard person to like. Of course there are those that love him no matter what. Indeed. And to my memory it was a very small crowd that did it at Barcelona, a crowd of maybe 5-10 people. There's always a few rotten apples somewhere. The Spaniards weren't impressed with his antics the year before against the folk hero Alonso.
